Logan Wilson - Football - University of Wyoming Athletics

College Football: 2019 PFF All-American Team | College Football and NFL Draft | PFF

Linebacker
First Team: Logan Wilson, Wyoming
No linebacker across the nation was able to accomplish what Wilson accomplished in 2019, as he was the only defensive player in the country to field elite grades against the run, in coverage and when blitzing the passer. His all-around elite play saw him finish as the nation's highest-graded linebacker as he recorded 17 total pressures on just 50 pass-rushes, secured 40 run stops and made nine total plays on the ball for a passer rating of just 63.2 into his coverage. Utilized all over the field, Wilson really shined when rushing the passer as he won 36.2% of his pass-rush attempts AND got home with pressure on every pass-rush win, leading the way to one sack, five hits and 11 more hurries.

Overall, Wilson attempted 106 tackle attempts and secured 82 solo tackles with 14 assisted tackles while he averaged making a tackle in run defense just 3.33 yards past the line of scrimmage. Elite at all levels of the field, Wilson capped an incredible four-year career with career-high grades across the board.

Should come down to his combine numbers whether he is 2nd or 3rd rounder.
Playing in that conference vs playing in the NFL is going to be a very large jump.
You aren't seeing Dalvin Cook, Aaron Jones and Derrick Henry types very often.

Soooooo......

What are your thoughts on Logan Wilson @Big_Blue_72 ?

I've watched a grand total of 2 full games played by him - versus Boise State and San Diego State and went back to watch very little of versus Air Force.

I've like what I've seen so far.

He reads and diagnoses extremely well.
He can uncoil and change directions relatively easy but seems to have somewhat long strides at times.
He has very good eye discipline when dropping into coverage.
He has very good technique when tackling and it's not striking at his opponent's shoulder
He's able to scrape through or find gaps around OL.
He rarely whiffs on wrap ups
He's rarely out of position when it's his assignment.

He will have trouble disengaging from OL blocks but those are few from what little I've watched.

I like this kids ability from a CFB view and believe he can transition that skillset to the NFL level and be successful.

Games are still won and lost in the trenches

Cool.

So, Fog and I will be happy when the pick becomes Georgia's LT Andrew Thomas.

and not some overhyped DT that's a 2-gapping, run stuffing, clog the lanes and eat up blockers so your LB corps can whiff on tackles and yet not all that often gets home to the QB from what his history to date at the collegiate level has shown.

wouldn't Hate the pick outside the top 10 or possibly at 9 in a trade down that gets and extra pick(s).

I'd rather take @Mebert 's NT Leki Fotu on the 3rd day and might possibly get the same from him.

I like Fotu, but he does pretty bad at 2-gap. He can take his one gap and own it though.

He is crazy athletic for his size, so who knows what he could end up being.

I realize he comes from the Group of 5 schools and he's not as athletic as Bobby Wagner (Utah State and WAC) or FCS Darius Leonard (South Carolina State) but you can find off the radar prospects outside the Power 5.

You're correct in not seeing him playing against Cook, Jones, Henry but there still exists RB prospects that have come from the Mountain West Conf that have made it to the NFL.

BTW, Aaron Jones, who I wanted drafted in 2017, came out of UTEP. UTEP isn't Power 5.

Furthermore, you have number of RB's that Wyoming has played over the last 4 years that are currently in the NFL

off the top of my head

Boise State - Minn - Alexander Mattison
San Diego State - Seattle - Rashaad Penny
BYU - GB - Jamaal Williams
Utah State - KC - Darwin Thompson

I doubt he's in the 2nd day convo regardless of whatever the media comes up with. It's possible he ends up late 3rd but I initially assumed he'd be 4-5 round. You never know what some crazy GM might draft him.

I can say I am always wrong on Ute players. I thought Fitts, Orchard, Booker and Bolles would all be awesome.

I thought Rowe and Williams would bomb.

Aren’t the Lions coaching in this game? Will be interesting to see how they do.

I like Jaylon Johnson this year though. If we dont take Okudah in the first round I would take JJ in the 3rd or 4th.

I would not mind that at all.

Bradlee Anae is probably may favorite Ute this year. He may be one of those players that excelled in college on technique, but does not have the physical ability to have a lot of success in the pros.

On offense I love Zack Moss, but a lot of what I said about Anae probably fits here. Dude knows how to find the hole, and loves to make contact with the defender. I like a lot of what he brings. As an added bonus, when he breaks out for a long run something about his form is hilarious. It is like he is trying to lead with his belly. I get a lot of joy out of that.

Lions coaching staff and Bengals coaching for the Senior Bowl.

They have yet to divide up players for teams and which coaching staff will be North/South as of this date.

Nothing against Johnson but his games against USC and more importantly against Oregon turned me sour. He was too much of a gambler and too damn grabby. He's not good in the run game either but that's pretty much common for most CB. He has good technique to stay mirrored but if the receiver starts to leave him here comes those hands.

I wouldn't have a problem with him being a mid to late 3rd day pick if he lasts that long as a train for depth guy.

Also, any of these B10 CB will have a tough time adjusting to the NFL officiating as that conference is pretty well known for officiating being a lot more relaxed on calling PI than other conferences.

Okudah is extremely grabby too just as much as Lattimore and Ward were (the latter was worse than Okudah, imo)

I think this years crop of CB prospects has the chance to have 5-7 who could become CB1 by year three but only if they get into the right system, proper coaching from their position coach and have a solid mentor to being them along.

Okudah
Fulton
Gladney
B. Hall
Dantzler

still questionable on

Terrell
Diggs

Okudah and Gladney I believe can be CB1 by year two depending on where they end up.

Both are very skilled at various schemes and also would be my top man/press man who should shine.

They both have the awareness and skillset to mix in zone coverage.

Gladney is the better tackler in run support over Okudah and may very well be the best of this years CB but still needs to get better.

Okudah wanted no part of Wisky's RB's Taylor and Groshek (sp ?)

You're not concerned with all his injury issues regarding hammy, quad, knee during 2017, 2018 ?

I love his power and ability to get skinny (seems odd stating that considering his frame) through holes and lower his pads to power past 1st contact.

if Moss was still available anywhere in 5th and damn for sure in 6th round I wouldn't pass up the opportunity to draft him. I'd take Moss over Scarbrough or even over Kerryon 10/10.

I cant argue any of that. It is pretty damn accurate. I just think he can be a player later on with a lot of upside if he can fix the bad habits. I cant see him going later then the 4th though especially if his combine is decent.

I dont like too many CBs so far as top guys beyond Okudah. I am digging deeper to try to find some hidden gems.

He for sure lacks the durability to be an every down back, but I think he can come in and run hard in intervals.

I think durability issues comes with the position.

Lots of people complain about Kerryon and his durability now that he's in the NFL but the kids never missed a game in CFB due to knee issues
