When is it appropriate to cry refs?

I’ll start by saying that teams have nobody to blame but themselves if they’re in a position for a bad call or two to decide the outcome of the game.

But there are instances where there’s ref errors that are in clear violation of the rule book for game procedures that can be called out without mockery.

Examples:

Central Michigan’s Hail Mary against Oklahoma State on a play that shouldn’t have happened.

Baylor’s win over Texas Tech this season where Texas Tech recovered a fumble snap but something called an illegal snap saved the game for Baylor.

Auburn’s last second of the first half FG against Bama this season. There’s 3 seconds required to run a play with a running clock.

Seems based on what you are saying should really only be on the last play when the mistake cannot be overcome.

That is incorrect. It takes 3 seconds to spike the ball, not snap it and run a play.

If that’s the case, I retract that example

Thank you. Think about it … after a first down when the clock is stopped to reset the chains, you don't lose any time if you are lined up for a snap.

And I will admit that when watching a game, I get annoyed if the refs are letting them play during the first half and then start calling every little thing in the second half.

I’m heavily in favor of letting them play.

When there are 65-80 plays a game, one bad call doesn't determine a game.

Especially frustrating in basketball.

Also i try not to blame the refs for making the correct call even when the rule the call is based on is preposterous ( like an offensive player lowering their head and causing head to head contact which is then flagged on the D ) but i do take issue with re-officiating a play when theres not indisputable evidence or ( worse ) when it appears the initial call was right and they still overturn it. If it takes you more than 1 minute to look at a play then, by definition , its not clear and ibdisputable.

A critical game that totally changes the game and that team loses momentum. It isn't that simple though.

The logic of the last play of a half or the last play of the game only mattering isn't a good one...bc it's still only one play. (Taking the side of people that don't believe one play can change a game)

But imo I really do think one bad call can change a game depending on what that play is... now that doesn't mean that losing team didn't make mistakes or potentially give that winning team the game with their mistakes without that bad call...but a bad call is still a bad call. Plain and simple. There are different levels to a bad call. For example: When a play is reviewed and you still get it wrong or it is overturned to the wrong call, it is really unacceptable with their review system.
Calls on the field that were wrong and not reviewed but somewhat 50-50...they simply happen. But when you have a review system to get a call right and you don't...and this play changes the momentum of the game, I think it can change a game. I've seen it in many, many games over the years.

There is always the point people can make, which is fair: don't put the game in the refs hands, if you don't make mistakes you can win the game. So that's why I say it really just depends on the game, the situation, everything, etc.

Somewhat agree... But let's say something like this happened:

Two evenly matched teams. One team is lining up for a relatively short field goal, and the other team jumps offsides, blocks the kick, and returns it for a TD.

That's a 10 (potentially more) point swing, which can be huge in a game like that.

Shit happens. If all were perfect, we wouldn't even have to play the games.

Refs can call a game really strictly or a little loose. As so long as they are consistent with both teams and for four quarters, I have no issue with however they choose.

I don’t know man, that Oklahoma State vs Central Michigan call definitely determined the game. It was a complete misapplication of the rules to allow an extra play that should have never happened at the very end of the game.

AND I hate it when the refs allow something different on a last play because they don't want to decide the game. Bullshit, you are deciding the game because you are changing a call at a critical moment.
