Or leave the Cornholer's out of it, sure they've had some down times, like Miami, Texas, SC ( yes SC fans you're spiraling out of control)

I guess my list is based off of today, who I see are the true "blue bloods" still standing :

Bama
Clemson
tOSU

That’s just a what have you done for me lately list not who the royals are.

Penn State & Auburn are easily blue bloods just off the top of my head. Notre Dame, Florida, Georgia... Bama & Auburn. LSU not really. Michigan, Ohio State. Oklahoma, Texas & USC. UW was. Army. All just opinion. Nebraska was there.

This forum has college football experts keenly aware of latest news. Blue bloods should cover those teams that even casual sports fans or even non-sports fans would recognize for greatness.

The teams that are expected to be good.

Now if you follow the sport intensely you will know that Wisconsin or Oregon or teams like that play great lately.

Also I think the bandwagoners declaring USC is dead are dead wrong & wishful thinkers. Of course, we have to find a way to beat Utah & Oregon. Stanford ran out of steam. SC can beat the Arizona schools, Colorado & hopefully UW.

I get baseball history, Chewy. I disagree about the A's but the Giants and Cardinals are fringe bluebloods at best. I just don't see them at the same level as the 3 I mentioned, results or not. Hell, the Red Sox didn't win anything for years and they still were considered an blue blood. Blue blood status is more than just winning. That is my point.

See that's what I was trying to get at, if folks thought a blueblood status was more then just winning.

To me, it is a lot more than just winning. I could not disagree more with @El Goyo when he says Auburn is Blue Blood. We have 2 natties claimed and could claim more using some schools criteria, but in my lifetime there has never been even a five year stretch where we were expected to compete for a natty every year. Even when we got home state Bo, that was more on the Bear saying he would play linebacker. We have never been able to compete with BBs for five stars. At the same time, we have fielded elite teams and had some elite players/units but until we can be consistent year in and year out, we have not arrived.

The biggest impact is on recruiting. Some programs are out of the running for players just because of the names of the team names that are also interested.

Elite is blue blood.

Elite is defined as a select group that is superior in terms of ability or qualities compared to the rest of a group or society.

Blue blood is noble birth.

If we we’re on a desert island and didn’t know any results for ten years, I wouldn’t be surprised at all that Auburn or Penn State won a ton of games and had dominate performances. I would be surprised if Maryland or WSU, Oregon State or Northwestern did it. Every conference has the teams you expect to shine and also the whipping boys.

Don’t just look at Nattys. Too rare & unique. Look All Americans, Heisman trophy’s, NFL draft picks, etc. look at stadiums and attendance.

Does being a blue blood really help there? Your top two recruiting classes this year are likely to be Clemson and UGA. Neither are blue blood programs

Michigan continues to pull pretty good recruiting classes despite doing nothing of substance. Hell Brady Hoke had two top ten recruiting classes.

IMHO elite without longevity does not mean BB. I cannot name a ten year stretch where we consistently fielded elite teams or even where we were just a game/injury away from competing for a natty. Every year that the procrastinators picked us to win our division, we would drop three losses.

It is subjective, so I am tickled that someone would think we are a BB, but to me the test is would a five star recruit with no ties to Auburn return Gus's call and give serious consideration to committing just because it is the Auburn Tigers calling? That has never been the case in Auburn football history. IMHO we are not even elite enough for that whereas Saban, Day and Dabo are. I respect and am encouraged by your opinion even though I think you are wrong. Getting some to believe that we are a BB is the first step in achieving that status.

LSU has played in 3 championship games and won two in the last 16 years.

They are fixing too play in another this year with the Heisman trophy winner.

Who gives three shits about "blueblood?

That’s WAY down a rabbit hole stuff. BAMA is a blue blood (most so much before Saban) but Auburn has had some spectacular wins against unbeatable BAMA. They didn’t show up expecting lose. They fought til the end & triumphed.

When LSU came to play USC many Trojans asked me “Who are what is LSU?” They never heard of them. If nothing else, Auburn is a rival of BAMA & they show up.

Blue blood isn’t latest results it’s who was born in a mansion with a silver spoon in his mouth. They should win lately it maybe don’t. The past matters because it refers to noble BIRTH. A king can lose battles & wars. But he’s still a king so long as
he survives.

Exactly! LSU might have the best team ever now & some great teams in the past. But they weren’t always great; don’t have a room full of Heisman trophies. More of a lunch bucket team like Wisconsin. Win a lot lately. But not royalty. You guys are taking it too seriously. Just a fun discussion is all it should be. How many times will people say it’s not all about the past? We get it.

I bet they know who LSU is now though huh?

When someone asks who has the championship trophy for the year the AP handed USC a paper title the answer is always...LSU.

I absolutely agree that acceptance standards play a part. I also posit that even with the higher standards, there are enough blue chippers … say four and five stars ... that these schools can enroll and still field consistent championship caliber teams. There is an old adage that I know I am going to butcher, but: if you sign four stars, you should never lack the talent and if you sign/develop three stars, you should never lack depth.

Using the rebirth of Alabama football(I call it the Return of the Sith) as an example, the biggest difference in Alabama recruiting from Schula to Saban was that nobody expected Schula to win championships … for many reasons, probation included ... so blue chippers by and large stayed away. Once Saban changed that perception the blue chippers are three deep across both sides of the ball. Success breeds success and in recruiting, perception is reality. That is the biggest obstacle most teams face.
But still the universe of 4 and 5 stars is smaller for these schools than it is for others and the other are going after these players also.
