Heres the question.

if a RB gets over 100 yds in a game. he technically did it. (When asked how many times you broke a 100 yds in a game)
but finishes the game with 97 yds, does his breaking a 100 yards count?

I remember a story about Arena Football's all-time leading rusher breaking the record but was tackled for a big loss on his last carry of a game. So he broke the record but at game's end wasn't the career leader because of his yardage total (but he did go over that total the following week). Same principle here.

So what's the Answer?

I mean if we were in a debate class, we could come up with arguments for either side.

In your case I'd say he broke 100 yards, had a 100 yard game while that was his total but didn't have a 100-yard game at the end if he lost yards. He had a 97 yard game. It's an interesting case but IMO it's pretty cut and dry because lost yards count.

yes. if the question is formed as a final result. Just like a 1000 yd rusher that ends the season with 997 yds.
if asked how many times he ended the season with as a 1000 yd rusher you wouldnt count that season. However if asked how many years did he gain a 1000 yds, would you then count that season.

In this case is 100yds & games.

I just find it interesting & curious what others think in these scenarios.

Just like if someone breaks a record (any record), but finishes below the record. technically the record was broken, but who is considered the record holder in the end?

If a QB rushes for 10 yards, you get 1 fantasy point for that. However, if he kneels down 3 times at end of game, you'll end up losing that point.

true but it is very defined rules. End of game results.

When talking of a record of most yards in a game. You break the record by a few yards. You technically broke the record in one game. but then lose some yards & end the game with a couple less yards. Depending on how you look at it. Do you have the record?
You technically gained more yards in a game than any other player ever (record amount), but you didnt finish the game with the most yards ever. So if the record is held by the guy who finished with the most yards in a game. he still cant say he gained more yards in a game than anyone "ever"

Stats arent official until the following Thursday.

True story.

Would have to assume no record would be considered broken, "officially", until the stats are official.

Didn't Payton get stuffed for a loss a couple of times after breaking Browns record?

I can recall when Barry Sanders just barely broke the 2,000 yard rushing mark against the Jets. The commentators were hoping Sanders didn't get tackled for a loss. But Sanders rushed for another 53 yards on another play finishing the season with 2,053 yards.

So no it wouldn't count as 100 yards in a game.
