So, obviously it's concerning to lose to a Swiss team. And speed is a concern with at least the 2nd line. However, that's going to get exposed more in a game like yesterday's where they're playing on the big ice. International ice is 14 feet wider.

I'm not going to hit the panic button until we start seeing how the regular season games start to go. But the preseason has made me a little more nervous.
Im not going to press the panic button yet but cmon a loss to a Swiss team from the 5th or 6th best league in the world is concerning.

Still not playing 60 minutes i dont care how you spin it.

Oh ya. That was clear. They waited at least 20 minutes to start playing yesterday.

Every player on our team has played on international ice plenty of time and know how to play on bigger ice. This shouldn't be used as an excuse.

I don't want to get in too much of an argument because it's really not that important. But I don't think that's true. It's a pretty young team and it's pretty heavily focused on US/Canadian players. They might've played a tournament or two on international ice, but certainly not enough to make it comfortable for them, randomly thrown in to the preseason like this.

Absolutely, they should not have lost yesterday. That should've been a cakewalk preseason game, regardless of travel, ice surface, etc. They are a far more talented team than Lausanne and with the proper effort, that game is a blowout in the Flyers favor.

I'm just saying, when you break down an individual category in the preseason, such as speed in this game, I am less concerned about how slow they looked yesterday. The truth of the matter is, they probably are a slow team in general. Look at the players they have. Konecny is maybe the only guy up front that I would list 'speed' as one of his skills. But I'm not any more concerned about specifically their speed after watching yesterday's game, because the wide ice surface on a one-off preseason game probably does exaggerate the problem.

Ok ill give it to you that the ice was big any we dont have that much experience. We lost 6 of 7 preseason games that were played on regular ice. Whats our excuse for those games?

Dammit i haven't decided to get the NHL package yet and the NHL channel comes with it.
Yea Dish cut our local Altitude feed so now I can't watch Avs games. They're blocked out on NHL package to unless it's an away game!

NHL.tv is definitely the cheaper option if you want to pay for something to get the games. $145 bucks for every game, or $116 for every Flyers game. That's been my preferred method the past few years. Can watch on mobile devices too, so you can watch games anywhere.
I use NHL.TV Was very clunky the first year or two, but works really well now.

regarding Lausanne loss... forget about it. Let's see how the do versus Blackhawks who will have same jet lag issues as Flyers. Do not under estimate that impact... rule is, it take one day for every hour of time change to adjust ... I'm more concerned about coming back to US/Canada and being for shit for 9 days... (time change between Prague and US Pacific time)

No excuses there. At it sounds like AV is already cranking up the heat on the vets. First, the big roster cut down after the Boston game because he "needed to see more from the vets and they needed more game/practice time to get up to speed". Today (and yesterday) he jumbled the lines a lot and said "the young guys are bringing good energy, we just need the vets to get there now".

So I don't think AV is going to go easy on the vets that have had hit/miss enthusiasm and motivation. The Flyers brass expect to compete this year. Missing the playoffs is not acceptable. There will be some attitude adjustment required to get that level of commitment after multiple years of "the process" and "we're building for a better future" mentality.

I would love if the vets came around early in the season and we have a good start to the season.

You're not, i heard the announcers on the game against the Rags say that AV told them when he was coaching the Rags it took them until Christmas to figure out his system. So 6 games in is nothing.

So.. the Flyers announced their roster and how they'd get under the cap yesterday. Sent Myers and Farabee down to the AHL to get under the cap. AV and Fletcher have said there would be lots of movement in the first few weeks, which makes sense with Patrick, Pitlick, and Welinksi injured.

I'll be curious to see if we get any movement before tomorrow's game. Right now they only have 11 healthy forwards and 7 dmen. AV hinted that Pitlick might be ready to go Friday, which would give them 12 forwards. But I'm sure that's AV's worst case scenario. He's spent a lot of time talking about needing to be in camp, practicing, playing in preseason games, etc.

Once Welinski is healthy, they can send him down and free up space to bring Myers or Farabee back up. But for the time being, it looks like Twarynski has beaten Farabee out for 3W and Hagg has beat out Myers for the 3rd pair spot.
