I don't think anything touches 87 OK St. with Thurman Thomas as the primary back and Barry Sanders backing him up.
That’s probably the winner. Didn’t know Thurman Thomas went to Okie State

2,200 yards and 26 TD's in Thurman's senior year for both combined...big names wise it doesn't get much better than that

But in Reggie's senior year he had 1,700 and 17 TD's...add in Lendale and they had combined over 3,000 yards and 40 TD's...plus combined they had another 700 receiving yards and 4 TD's...that is hard to beat

I remember reading a Sports Illustrated cfb preview magazine when I was 12 or so. It went something like this.
With Thurman Thomas gone, Barry Sanders will get the chance to gallop for the Cowboys.

Speaking stats from a Ducks homer, I’m going to throw out two notable combos.

LaMichael James and Kenjon Barner

And If I remember correctly both Jeremiah Johnson and Onterrio Smith finished with over 1,000 yards in same season.

That was a great stable as well. But you knew what OK State was going to try to do to you with their offense in 87. USC also presented opponents with another way they could kill you on offense. It's close but I'm going with the Cowboys.

The question was talent so it is a tricky question, as far as production, USC beats everyone and it isn't close. I mean 4,000 yards 40 TD's is crazy from a duo..of course Barry had 37 alone his senior year which is mind-blowing.

As a tandem Oklahoma State pretty easily but neither Thurman Thomas or Barry Sanders ever beat OU.

You can't compare. PC running a wide open offense with great receivers, a great qb, and a great RB. But watching OK St. play that year you could see that the 2 guys they had were clearly two of the best RB's in CFB and Thomas was hands down the best. Just about every down they were hitting you with one or the other.

But I won't argue. This is Pac 10 wco team vs a ground and pound big 8 team. Pretty much apples and oranges. They were both awesome.

Those teams were loaded to the gills. Nebraska was a monster during that stretch as well. OK St. was solid but those two were in a different solar system talent-wise.

Well different eras, football has changed. That USC running game is uncomparable to that era, it was amazing. Same with that Okie St running game. Both were some of the best of their era, if not the best.
