For me it has to be Chris Klieman at Kansas State.

3-0
I know they haven't played anybody but have beat them in convincing fashion.
And I expected zero out of KSU this year. They might lose every game from here on, but for now, this is my pick.

I mean, I didn't even know who this guy was.

Dave Clawson.

Has lead WAKE FOREST to 3 consecutive winning seasons, and has his team off to a 3-0 start.

If Kirby announced his retirement at the end of the season, and I could pick a coach that we had a realistic chance to hire, Clawson would be my pick(realistic chance to hire, Dabo, Saban, Urban Meyer and Lincoln Riley wouldn't come)

You didn't know who Chris Klieman was? He was North Dakota State's head coach for 5 years, and won the FCS natty in 4 of them.

Two of those three wins are against top 40 teams, too.

fwiw, I used to think it was a guarantee that Clawson would move on to a bigger school. However i have gotten to a point where I would be fairly surprised if he left.

Looking at that schedule, 11-1 is possible for Wake this season.

Nick Saban.

What with all the HUNH he has to scheme against and the unfavorable conference schedules and the rules changes and the injuries every year....

Hell, there isn't a more persecuted head coach in NCAA history.

Just ask him.

He'll tell you.

At length!

Miss St on the road is nothing to sneeze at. They are a talented squad in the trenches and Kansas St physically stood toe to toe. I was surprised by what I saw. Last time they played Miss St physically whipped Kansas St.

Miss State still has some pieces, but they're not in a spot to lose two first round talents on defense along with arguably the best QB in program history and not take a step back.

They are still much more talented than Kansas State. Kansas State is one of the worst recruiting programs in P5. That was a sign of culture and coaching yesterday. They just plain played harder and more physical than Miss St. Hard to do that in year one with a new coach. But the rumblings are Bill Snyder had worn thin with the kids so buy in might have been easier than normal.

The only thing the K-State players had to buy into was the additional wrinkles that Klieman has added.
K-State has always had "tough" players. This guy was made for the K-St job. K-St is a clone of N Dak St
players. He couldn't go just anywhere and be successful, he needed the types of players that K-State
already had.

The only thing he is doing different than NDSU is his QB is not under center as much as is not in the I-formation.
But his game plan is the same. He attacks every part of the field both running and throwing. His defense is big
time aggressive. They attack the los...especially his linebackers. They come hard.

I watched a lot of that game. I was impressed with Kansas State. "Over-achievers."

Chris Creighton of Eastern Michigan has beaten a Big 10 team 3 years in a row

that is incredible for what was possibly the worst program in college football prior to his arrival there

Well, I wasn't completely void of information, but didn't really keep up with it enough to tell you much about it.

I think coaching changes are a little more complicated than that, but I do see your point about similarities in programs. It's just hard to get trust and buy in from guys who didn't sign up to play for you. You were chosen for them.

I'd go along with that line of thinking. But, his style is very similar to Snyder's style of hard-nosed football.
Nothing really changed for them, with the exception that whatever skill K-State has, this guy can get them in
space and make things interesting.
