His last 28 days: .198/.278/.272

I love speed guys too, but they are useless if they don't use the entire field or just pop it up.

Didn't realize it had been that bad the last 28 days. I was just looking at his game logs since coming back to the Mariners which has him at .252/.318/.378 in 66 games with 22 steals, 4 HRs, 4 triples and 14 doubles. Still not great but overall an improvement I suppose.

My biggest worry is that I fear he'd be a guy who gets traded while he's in a slump and reverts back to the player he was in 2018.

I get that, but if he can't turn it around for us it really doesn't matter what he does elsewhere. Best case is he turns 2018 into 2020 and as a Mariner. I didn't watch him last year so I really don't know the difference in his game.

I suppose we will have to wait and see. Luckily at this point I don't think his trade value could really diminish much more from where he's at right now and it's not like we have any reason not to continue playing him.

Worst case scenario he continues playing like this and nothing changes. Best case scenario he shows to be a valuable player and is worth something as a trade chip and/or proves he's worth keeping on the team going forward.

Realistically it's probably somewhere in between. I will concede that I didn't notice how substantially his K rate had shot up. Hopefully that is something that can be improved upon because with his athleticism he has the ability to run out a lot of balls put in play.

Everything I've read on White indicates that he could be an immediate gold glover contender with regular playing time in the majors. He has also had a lot of improvement at the plate which is good to see.

I have heard a few times by different baseball people on TV that he would be the top defensive 1B in the majors right now. I flash back to Olerud when I hear that. I hope the kid can hit enough to stick around and I really could care less if he doesn't hit 30+ homers a year. Give me a guy that can hit .280+ with doubles and gold glove at 1B and I will be so so happy.

Yeah I've heard similar things as well. It's seldom you hear someone definitively say that a guy in AA could immediately be a gold-glove contender as a rookie. With all the shifts being implemented these days, it would be interesting to see how much they get creative and use his athleticism and play him a bit more off the bag than usual.

Worst case scenario I think he ends up as a league average bat who makes up for it with his defensive ability. Also worth mentioning that he probably runs better than most first basemen in the majors right now.
