Ha- I'd be happy with the Bone- Jay Buhner:D I'm half serious about this. I doubt if he would even consider it but he's a straight shooter, goes balls out and would expect his players to either perform or take a hike. He's down to earth and very competitive - but most importantly.....he loves to fly fish!! :pound:

PLUS- he knows baseball inside and out!!

I think Jay would've been one of those best quote managers, but I also think he liked being home with the family watching his kids grow up and play their sports.....

Plus that whole fishing thing eats up a lot of time

I honestly think Edgar was going to get the next managerial job for the M's and he was probably close to it as the job he as hitting coach was prepping him. He was always close to Servais and probably tried to "learn" from him And it wasn't until last year that they gave Servais a contract extension and realized what a dumbass Servais is and says "fk it, im out"

Maybe once Edgar settles into the HoF he'll reconsider coaching again somewhere.

My concern about Edgar is that he is not aggressive enough IMO. He's knowledgeable but I just don't think he would be the manager who pitches a bitch on a crappy call or get fired up to back up his players. I don't see him putting pressure on the players, he's just too nice of a guy. Just my opinion is all.

I'd like Jeff Pickler... He's done an amazing job w/ the Twins turn around... He's their strategist and is heavily involved in game planning, player development...

I don't want any ex-Mariner managing this team... ex players rarely pan out...

I think Maddon with younger guys would've been very interesting to see....

Joe with Old vets not so much

Not sure how he would do with vets. I like his style and the way he deals with players. He has taken two teams to the playoffs which is pretty good these days. I am not big on these new manager types. I like a guy that has worked his way through a system and developed a style and soaked up everything good and bad around him. I even like Melvin.

Sitting at the Safe Sunday right behind Bob and thinking to my self, " damn he would be a perfect fit for here now!"

Well, I think he's won Manager of the year a couple times since leaving the Mariners. He got shafted when he was with the M's organization. He was in a "no win" situation due to management from FO. He's doing a pretty decent job with the A's, considering the resources he's had to deal with.

Exactly! Though some might have issues with his quick hook on pitchers but he does a good job with his staff

I guess Im torn on what I want as a manager, I understand the game has changed and the new manger needs to be a computer whiz to set his lineup but I still want a manger that will come out of the dug out and lose his shit when an umpire makes a crap call, to me that shows players he cares about them will fight for them and doesn’t make it all about numbers and flow charts.

That to me is why I always felt Lou was a genius. He knew the game for sure, but the fire is where it is at. I coached girls softball and both girls and boys basketball that way. People in the stands thought I was nuts and questioned why any kid would play for me, but I had a list of players wanting on my team including kids whose parents were currently coaching them. Everybody loves the support no matter what level they are at.

Okay so with that said ( and I agree 100%)

Why not go get Matt Williams out of Oakland?
Hes been there two years coaching 3rd for Melvin.
He was 179 and 145 in Washington when they played the whole big name card.
Granted Lou had two gigs prior to coming here ( Yanks and Reds)
I'm not saying they should try to go out and catch lighting in a bottle, but this new way of managing to me isn't working.

Why not go out and get that guy that has the old school mentality and was being groomed to manage this new way now.

I loved Williams as a player. He was fiery. Not sure about his management skills, but he might be the next guy to step up. It is odd he hasn't been given a chance at his age, but then again he isn't the new mold either...which I am happy for.

I don't have much faith in Dipoto hiring a manager considering his hire of Servais.

If Servais is replaced by Dipoto (huge if there), I have to assume his replacement will be someone that none of us have heard of who has never managed a MLB game in his career.

As much as I appreciate the analytic approach, I think that should be left to assistants and the front office. Just give me a manager that can light a fire under someone's ass, and figure out how to manage a pitching staff and lineup and I'd be happy.

As much as I get excited when anyone talks about a replacement for Servais, my gut tells me that Dipoto will never replace his best bud. As the GM, if he hasn't seen the shortfalls of his manager after this long, he either is inept or is continuing to hope his manager will develop into a real manager. (either way it doesn't show much for Dipoto imo) After seeing that 95' video showing Lou and hearing players talk about him, I really would like to see a manager who has a set of testicles and kicks ass when needed instead of just pouting and getting that constipated look on his face. :gaah:

Reality is Jerry can roll with Scotty Boy for another season while they wait for the kids to grow up.

I was curious to see what everyone’s thought on a manger replacement would be

This franchise has had exactly one manager worth a piss in 40 years. And Lou proved how well a competent manager can do with the same frustrating limitations the rest have failed with. If they had let him get some of the players he wanted they probably at least make the WS while he was here.

Dipshitpoto is not the right guy to find someone of that caliber. Seems like the type that needs to be the boss and wouldn't go get that larger than life force that would overshadow everyone else in the organization. He wants lackies. And of course that only brings you lack of winning.

At this point I'd take a ham sandwich over Servais, but the problems go higher than that.
