Thank you donaldson. I was waiting to see if someone would say something about the crap always being given to Guzman. He takes up a lot of space at 1st. High, low , wide, whatever. Yes, he has struggled at the plate but let him have time to work it out. Many posters can't decide if we are in a rebuild or a pennant chase. This is when they need to get their feet wet and not in the minors. I do like what Forsythe did at 3rd tonight. If he was to replace Cabrera then so be it as he is not a part of the future. I like Santana and I can understand people tired of Odor. I am not understanding what his deal at the plate is but it is more than many who keep talking about him chasing the high pitch. His pop off the bat is just not there like it has been in years past. So I can see Santana playing more for him a letting Odor sit some or if anyone could benefit at AAA it would be him.

I think the bigger picture is Santana should be playing SOMEWHERE. The guy has a .350 batting average ( give or take) in the month of June. That’s insanely good.

I just don’t see the rangers doing anything about odor. I think they’re content to bang their head into the wall 500 times and hope he lucks his way out of it. I don’t think it’s going to happen. The guy is just not very good.

We still have the issue of Santana deserving to be an everyday player. If we were in the Detroit Tigers position, yeah fine....... keep condor up and let him play, but with this team I don’t see why we shouldn’t at least be trying to win every damn game we possibly can.

At least 5 or 6 teams are tanking off the top of my head. I’m talking full blown Astros style tanking. I’d rather just watch good baseball at this point, and Odor isn’t even coming close to providing it. Even when he bunted and got on base ( he only bunts when he’s struggling), he showed terrible instincts as he got thrown out on the very next pitch.

You’d just hand him 50 million to leave? Easy to say when it’s not your money. It’s not a good situation and it can get ugly. The front office has botched this situation in a major way. Around the beginning of June, odor accumulated 5 years of major league service time.

The options are

1) continue to pretend that he doesn’t suck and play him everyday over more talented players on the bench.

2) attempt to demote him. He has to consent. If he says no and you send him down anyway. He can collect the $50 million we owe him and ride off into the sunset on that beautiful pony we gave him.

3) Bench him for more talented players. Use him as a defensive replacement when rosters expand. Use him as alate inning roster replacement if we’re blowing people out or getting blown out. Try to prevent him from getting at bats that impact the outcome of the game because he will usually fail based on his track record.

I guess option 3 is the best at this point. The front office is so stubborn that I wouldn’t surprise if there was a directive for woody to play him every day. It is what it is.

Technically he only has about 36 million left going forward

Isn’t there a club option for the last year? So we could be stuck with him for 3 more years tops?

Or maybe JD would pick up the option based on how they’ve treated him so far.

I can completely understand your feelings in playing Santana and sitting Odor. I have pulled for Odor all season but something is not right with him. But Guzman I am sticking with and want to see it play out. He plays great "D" which you seem to overlook and he is willing to hit to all fields. Sending him to the minors is not a cure all or everyone would be doing it all the time when guys struggle. It just is not that easy.

In 2023, its a team option (13.5) or buyout (3), so technically 39.75 million left, b/c if we're still having this conversation in 2023 its a buyout

I just want to make it clear that I’m not giving up on Guzman. I think he can still be a good player. The knock on him is that teams usually stick a bad ass bat there. He’s not a bad ass hitter right now. He just isn’t.

We still have team control for awhile and he’s young. His time will come, but we have an inevitable roster crunch coming and a solution needs to be reached that doesn’t hurt the team both now and in the future.

The only options from a position player standpoint should be to let Cabrera go or demote condor.

I have no attachment to Cabrera whatsoever

Odor needs to be on the bench and Santana needs to be playing. He can be sent down, he just has to consent to it. I would go to Odor and tell him that they want him to go down. If he refuses, I would DFA his ass.
We could consider a deal with the Long Island Ducks. :noidea:

(4) take the pony away and see what happens.

Lost in the good news about Cole Winn's start, was that barely 19 year-old Ronny Henriquez also pitched in that game. He went 3 innings and only allowed 1 baserunner while striking out 6.

I finally get to see a game tonight.

I will be sitting somewhere right close to the visitors bench.

Whether we want Gallo in the HR Derby or not, MLB should want him in it. But then, MLB gets a lot of things wrong

From mlbtraderumors.com

General manager Jon Daniels recently discussed the club’s mindset leading up to the deadline with ESPN Dallas 103.3, per the Dallas Morning News. While Daniels indicated the Rangers’ main focus is on building a successful team for the long haul, he admitted that“you can’t ignore the fact that it’s fun every night at the park.” With that in mind, Daniels added Texas will “be very open-minded” when trade season begins in earnest, saying: “We’re not going to set any limits on this team, but we’re also not going to do anything to take shortcuts and endanger what we feel is a really bright future for the club. We’re just going to try to be smart about it. See what opportunities are out there — how do we get better both now and in the future? Bottom line, this club’s done a lot of good things. They’re a lot of fun to watch, certainly would like to support them if we can.”
