Unless I've misunderstood something, I don't think anyone is saying that 10 starts isn't a reasonable sample size OR that 4 starts is.

It's that he's got 14 starts on the season, so lets look at all of them. If you have to ignore nearly 30% of a guy's season in order to favorably compare him to the elite pitchers thus far, you're cherry picking.

No one is suggesting that Sale is the 8.50 ERA pitcher that he was over his first four starts, but they shouldn't be ignored if we're comparing them in the context of ASG selection/starts, which is where this started.

Although I agree with what you say, Sale isn't even as bad as what his YTD stats show. He is his last 10, not the 14.

I was at the Bosox home opener and GOD was he awful....even gave up a ridiculously bad steal of home he was totally asleep on.
Sale has been absolute money for a while now....but, he definitely earned some of those losses.

Hard to tell, since you seem so incensed that I would point out the obvious that ASG voters are demented fanboys.

Look, kid, I don't give a shit what you think of ASG voters. I'm amused because you asked how rare is it for there to be no Red Sox or Yankees in the ASG.

Voting tendencies notwithstanding, when was the last time that the Red Sox and Yankees didn't have a single player that should legitimately be in the ASG? Secondly, even if that was the case, every team by rule gets at least one player on the ASG roster.

So, you're asking retarded questions and then lamenting "stupid fans." It was amusing. That's all.

The discussion started with a comment about him possibly starting the ASG. In that context, those four games are important.

Well...

He is the 14, with an almost guarenteed flame out during the summer.

This isn't a new trail we're on, you should know what's around the bend.

I already addressed that and moved on. I'm still working on the damaged goods comment.

Ok, so there are some Boston fans out there who understand that we can't just throw out all the bad starts.

Can't answer or hold an honest discussion- not surprising you turn to insults.

"Retarded". Okay, kid.

I can see how that makes you an expert on starting pitching. You should have said that from the start.
it makes me really dangerous with numbers.

I believe it was John McGraw who once told one of his pitchers to not try to strike out every batter. He said something like, "the whole point of having a defense behind you is to make your job easier"
yeah, and HOF connie mack said pitchers made a mockery of the art of hitting and thats why he wanted the create a DH.

games evolve.
