Good to see you again Breeder. This was my position all along, for a guard to be picked at 5 he has to be John Hannah. As good as Scherff has been he is not trending towards that level. But in looking back at the draft the argument can certainly be made that he is a better player than those picked right after so there's that.
sherf was a great pick for us and he has proven quite a bit

Yeah I really can't argue that at this point although it's still painful to spend the 5th pick on a guard. But in reviewing that draft I see names such as Danny Shelton, a player many of us discussed, as well as other well known busts. Unfortunately one of them is now penciled in as our starting LG.

If its for 2020 does that mean he'll be a Redskin for the 2019 season. Or will he get cut? As it stands at this moment though. As he hasn't done it in the last 3 seasons. I see very little chance Doctson does something by Friday that would merit the Skins paying him 9.3 million. An 81 rec, 1100 yards, 13.5 ypc, 8 TDs type season would've gotten him that 9.3 mill and more. Those numbers over an injury plagued 3 seasons not so much.

Advertised as a skywalker, Doctson did display that trait a few times in the last 3 years. But wasn't he also supposed to be a very good to great hands pass catching WR as well? At present he's the literal 50/50 with 81 rec on 162 targets.

Now on to phase 2 of the question. What team signs Doctson after the Skins 86 him and he turns out to have a couple good seasons and a half-ass decent career?
Yeah, he's under contract for 2019 for something like 2 million. It's probably worth keeping him just because he improved some last year (left-handed compliment), but he's still awful at getting seperation and running after the catch. But he'll be a free agent in 2020. We're using 2020 foresight, so to speak. The WR they picked in the 6th round might end up beating him out for playing time as the possession receiver.

Sucks they have to make the decision now but if that's the way it is then I say no way too.

Can we finally put a stick in the whole Scot M. debacle and conclude that his tenure was a complete disaster? His drafts were terrible and his FA pickups even worse. I believe Dox and Scherff are the only players who remain from 2 draft classes and when you take a guard at 5 well that's about as safe of a pick as you will ever see so little credit for that.

But it has been 3 years and it's time I admit that was the better pick than Williams.

Here are SM's picks:

2015 Draft
Round Overall Name Position College
1 5 Brandon Scherff OG Iowa
2 38 Preston Smith OLB Mississippi
3 95 Matt Jones RB Florida
4 105 Jamison Crowder WR Duke
4 112 Arie Kouandjio OG University of Alabama
5 141 Martrell Spaight ILB Arkansas
6 181 Kyshoen Jarrett FS Virginia Tech
6 182 Tevin Mitchel CB Arkansas
6 187 Evan Spencer WR Ohio State
7 222 Austin Reiter C USF[22]

2016 Draft

Round Overall Name Position College
1 22 Josh Doctson WR TCU
2 53 Su'a Cravens LB USC
3 84 Kendall Fuller CB Virginia Tech
5 152 Matt Ioannidis DE Temple
6 187 Nate Sudfeld QB Indiana
7 232 Steven Daniels LB Boston College
7 242 Keith Marshall RB Georgia[23]

Obviously some bad ones but Scherff & Ionnidis are still solid. Also - Smith, Crowder & Fuller were good picks they are just elsewhere for various reasons (some due to his successor). The rest of the picks are forgettable. Overall not a good track record, but who knows if he remained if his picks would have been better or worse.

Yep & if by some miracle he has a breakout season (doubt it) they still will have a shot at retaining him. It is a gamble but one worth taking. IMO it is also not worth the risk of him being a non factor this season & the Skins having to be on the hook for $9M next season.

Yeah, they could still cut him, but if he got injured, they would be on the hook for the 10 mil - just not worth that risk. Hope he proves us wrong.

By all accounts Ioannidis was Gruden. I was as big of a Scot homer as there was. He was bad in the draft and FA.

also Kyshoen Jarrett had a freak accident. He definitely looked like he belonged in this league with Chris Harris type potential.

Never understood why people were upset when Scot got the can. I didn't see where he was all that.

Thanks for providing this. Maybe not Vinny territory but pretty bad. When you count the free agent signings, none that I can think of who worked out, yeah it was pretty much a disaster.

2016 NFL Draft Profile: Su'a Cravens

All of this reminds me of all the hype & enthusiasm for Cravens when he was drafted in 2016. I like many other fans was thrilled that they drafted this guy. Take a look at his scouting report - pretty promising. Also look at the comments & see that fans of many teams wanted this guy.

He had a relatively decent rookie season & it all went downhill from there. He supposedly wanted to retire from football due to head injury concerns but then was none too happy to ignore that when given a chance w/ Denver. Along the way he exaggerated an encounter w/ the cops & also appeared to kind of snub his teammates.

He just turned out to be a major disappointment & I don't believe that anyone saw this coming. That is just what happens sometimes in the draft - not sure if you can really blame anyone.

I have a co-worker who is a huge Broncos fan and says Cravens is terrible. He said Cravens was so bad that they made him inactive down the stretch last year.

I thought he got injured early and was put on IR, now I see he was activated. This is good to read, fuck this guy. As for it being nobody's fault SM constantly preached that he wanted "football players", guys who lived and breathed this stuff. But Cravens pulled this disappearing act at SC, he should have been aware of that.

Let's not forget that it wasn't so much that Scot got fired, as it was that Bruce was still here and at the time, taking over...again!

Of course it has. Allen has some bad drafts but now Kyle Smith is taking over and is already proving to be better. Regardless how this class pans out. What year was Allens worst draft? I think many of you know which year I will pick.
