I think this is overdue frankly. Detroit has never won a Super Bowl and Dallas hasn't won since 1996. Why should we have to watch bad football on our holiday? Do we really need to watch Matt Stafford throw for four picks against the Bears? No, sir. Get some real teams in there.

The league confirmed today that the Eagles submitted a proposal for a change in the league resolutions that would have seen the Lions and Cowboys continue to play on Thanksgiving each year, but to play on the road every other year.

The text of the Eagles’ proposal read, “to continue the annual tradition of having Dallas and Detroit play on Thanksgiving, provided that one of those clubs host a home game with the other club playing away, and alternating home and away games each subsequent season.”

Hahaha.

“Detroit has never won a SB” so the NFL should break the tradition.

Eagles fans never disappoint.

Why? Why do the Lions and the cowturds get such a prominent game every year. 1/2 the time either one or both of them suck.

Gotta start somewhere. The way it works now is actually an advantage for them, though you would not know it from Detroit's record.

That is true. Just use different teams each year. Fu@k Jerry Jones, he is the one that will keep it from happening. I think this proposal is to appease Jerry Jones and his cowturds will still be on yearly.

I like the tradition as it is.....although I can see an argument against it, so....

Given how the NFL is so week-to-week/year-to-year in this day and age with the exception of a few, I think these Thanksgiving game proposals will most likely turn out to be duds like much of the prime-time games....especially so late in the season when injuries can and will derail teams.

Because... the Eagles had never won fuck all until a couple seasons ago... and NOW you just think yer shit don't stink.

That said, just ditch the tradition all together and cycle different teams in based on who is projected to be good.

The Cowboys and Lions were playing on Thanksgiving since back in a time when the other teams didn't want to do it.
Now that everyone wants to play on Thanksgiving, suddenly they should lose the game? That's crap.

C'mon... The Lions Thanksgiving home game tradition is the only thing those poor souls have. Let them keep their home game.

It's not like the Eagles owner tried to say Philly should have the game, which is how some of you are reacting. All he said was that these teams should not be able to have it as a HOME game every year. That is a clear advantage, as they get to have a long homestand through the holiday while others have to travel.

Personally, I think it should be a flex game of sorts--the league should decide it at the start of the season. I don't think it can be in the middle because obviously people have to make Thanksgiving plans. But at the start of the year, you can make a reasonable guess that, say, Rams and Patriots might be good home teams, etc.

The reason is that back in the day when the games were established, all the other teams ran away screaming leaving Dallas and Detroit as the only 2 teams willing to play on Thanksgiving. They have upheld that tradition ever since. Consistently over the years, other teams, seeing how popular the games have become have gone "whoops, we now want it" and the league has politely told them to fuck off.

Again, they were doing this, opening their stadium on Thanksgiving Day, since the 1930's, when no one else wanted anything to do with it.

It's bullshit to try and take the game, and the HOME game from them now.

Has anyone said the Eagles want a Thanksgiving game?
