It's pretty clear that a majority of these people were buying tickets online for Captain Marvel, then sneaking into the latest Madea flick, but didn't want to get caught with the ticket stub.

You don't frame all your Madea ticket stubs?

Saw it opening night. It was pretty good.
I saw it. It was decent. I'm not huge into the super hero stuff so I wasn't super excited with it.
I did notice how it had so many a Top Gun references. Not sure what the link is.

90's set movie about a pilot... gotta include all the Top Gun references the movie can handle.

Wow.

Word is starting to come out that haters of Brie Larson and Captain Marvel, in a panic move that their predictions of box office failure were so wrong, are spreading fake news and desperately making up nonsensical conspiracy theories. They want us to believe that the movie studio, afraid of losing money at the box office, decides to spend millions buying tickets for empty seats, even though that loses the studio even more money.

The source is this post on BoundingIntoComics based on tweets by Twitter account Just_Pele.

Surprise, surprise, both BoundingIntoComics and Just_Pele are among the Brie Larson and Captain Marvel haters who have been bashing the film since before its release. It's fake news.
yea it sounds like BS from the Incels who are out to bring the movie down.

they can get bent

My theater was sold out, and me and my family had to buy the tickets several days in advance, and we still weren't able to be seated together.

(Assigned seating)

I saw it opening day and had no trouble getting seats here in Omaha. Granted I went to a 4 o'clock showing. I would say the theater was about half full.

Top Gun came out in 1986...

still no problem having Top Gun references, even though I don't remember them in the movie. Maybe I haven't seen Top Gun in a while.

I mean what would you put worse? I can at least applaud Lucas for trying to create something funny with Jar Jar (it failed), and at least those episodes pushed something innovation wise and we as an audience hadn't seen it before. What the F did Last Jedi do? Further a Mary Sue and throw AWESOME potential for light side/dark side to join up down the drain? Last Jedi could've been epic if Kylo/Rey had paired up, or if there was an interesting Luke dynamic. Instead we got porgs and a stupid plotline around uh... oh God what was his name. Oh yah Finn and Asian chubby girl. PC and the kiddies, amirite?

Good assessment but I really liked the Jedi pieces in the Last Jedi. Rey's training, her conflict and fights with Kylo Ren were all really good. It's unclear how that gets resolved.. Even Luke's part was decent too.

Saved the movie imo because the rest of it was just odd shite. You forgot to mention the whole casino bs and the stupid conflict between Laura Dern and Poe..

Saw it again today with the kids... Enjoyed it even more than the first time.

Even if she's not the prettiest woman in the world (she's still gorgeous), Brie Larson is a badass.

I've read a # of reviews that don't seem to critique the PC agenda... seems like it's a lot like the Superman movie, which I hated. It has one of the timelines that keep switching back and forth and it's disjointed and confusing, Brie was extremely plastic and hard to relate to (similar to Superman to a degree), and then she's overpowered and there's really no weakness (I guess even Superman had kryptonite). Anyway, that's what I read. But who really gives a fuck about Captain Marvel? Nobody ever asked for it (unlike Wonder Woman). Captain Marvel was not really a comic go to, in fact the comics changed Captain Marvel between a man/woman, etc. and took various stances on the character because everyone found Captain Marvel fuckin' boring.

I hated Man of Steel (that was the name of it... knew I could remember) and really only got like 1/3 through it until I got bored and just clicked through the rest to get to action scenes which were forgettable. Captain Marvel seems like it's quite similar and right up the same alley.

That said, the Marvel movies are just boring as F these days. Some accident happens to someone... they discover powers, then some evil guy is trying to destroy Earth or the Universe... of course Disney is trying to shoehorn a PC agenda into every one of their movies these days, which is kind of annoying but something I can overlook if the movie is actually GOOD, which so many of these are mediocre.

The Avengers movies are pretty good, because there's a lot of action going on and I think it's cool/unique having a movie that combines so many Superheroes and giving them all screen time. It's a cool thing.

But I didn't see Black Panther, SpiderMan Homecoming, don't plan on Captain Marvel... it's just the same old shit over and over again. Every movie there is some threat that is going to change the World or takeover the Universe!!! In The Dark Knight, it was just some asshole lunatic. Like every film they end some WORLD threat... and then another one pops up. So .... who cares?

Why can't we do it like Blade? We didn't need an origin story of young Wesley Snipes and how he gets bit by a vampire and shows us WHY he can go in daylight. And a lot of these superheros are boring. We didn't need Black Panther, his background/CV was perfectly explained in the Avengers. Just throw him in there.

Plenty of people love these movies regardless which is awesome. But I'm just bored with them now. And why would I want to watch a movie about a superhero with no weaknesses? That's boring. "Yah, go kill the bad threat please. Clearly you're not in any danger of... anything. LOT at stake for this HER.... O (really fuck you Disney on that trailer)"

If you don't care about the spoilers, then click the button. I will tell you all (its a lot) lol...

First off, the acting is sketchy. In many cases, I THINK it is forgivable. In other cases, it is pretty bad in my opinion. People have been giving Brie Larson crap for this stoic look or acting job, but I am willing to forgive it as a bad decision or direction. The story does set up as she has lost her memories and is told to control her emotions.

Secondly, the movie is jumpy. From scene to scene or shot to shot and it just doesn't make sense. At one point, Larson and Law are on an alien planet (what planet isn't in these movies, I know) together on a mission, they are ambushed and Larson is taken prisoner. Using this machine, the Skrul start reading her memories and discover Earth. She wakes up, breaks out of the machine, and uses an escape pod to land.... on Earth. They JUST discovered it, how are they there already? She falls to Earth, has a moment with a security guard, then raids radioshack... which is in of itself ridiculous. So she is able to take BASIC communication equipment, somehow wire into a landline (mind you, no satellite), and suddenly make/create/boost an INTERGALACTIC communication signal? GTFOH. But suddenly, shield shows up as she is leaving radioshack to make the phone call annnnd it is morning already. Whatever, that is forgivable... we'll just say it took her an hour or two to figure out what she needed... even though it looked BRIGHT... like noon, but whatever. But Jude Law and friends were with her on the planet that she was captured on. After she contacts them through that makeshift bullshit, Law says that it will take (I believe) 22 hours for him to get there or something like that even though the Skrul were somehow able to get there basically upon discovery. So not only were the Skrul with them on the planet, but they kidnapped Larson, read her thoughts, and traveled to a planet that put them 22 hours ahead of the Kree. Whatever... I could have missed something.

Another scene involves the PC stuff. Larson can't use a computer... ok, I get the joke. But we have seen multiple movies where keyboards or something like it exist in these futuristic planets, but again... whatever. She was taught all this other new technology... like turning a payphone into an intergalactic communication system with no apparent delay. But anyway, a prototypical looking guy on a motorcycle rolls up as she is checking out a map. He essentially catcalls her and tells her to "smile more" and maybe it was me, but he did it is such a way that just too much. At least for viewers that weren't that old in that timeframe. I was a young kid in the 90's and I have never seen anyone do things like this... but I am from Nebraska. Maybe we are just nicer out here idk. Anyway she steals his motorcycle.

Larson keeps having these flashbacks of her life.... ANNNNND every memory is some sort of MAN telling her she can't do something. From her dad, to other soldiers, people at bars, whatever. One line is something like.... referencing that she will never be a pilot the guy says 'you know why they call it a cockpit, don't you'. Now again, this is a different time and place, but I have never seen people be so blatantly disrespectful to women for what looks like no other reason than they can be. And I grew up in a broken household.

Anyway, Fury is able to kill one of the Skruls in an accident where he learns that they actually are alien. Cool, understandable. Next scene, Fury is with ONE doctor in this weird medical setting with poor lighting doing a fucking autopsy on the alien. His boss walks in 'we need to find her' yada yada yada, Fury says well a woman matching the description was seen stealing a motorcycle 'I'll check it out'. THE VERY NEXT SEQUENCE OF SCENES shows Larson strolling up to a bar on the motorcycle and checking it out this bar from her memories. She is there for MAYBE 30 seconds, asks a question to the bartender... but Fury responds. How the hell did he not just get there so fast, but how did he find her that fast? This is not the shield of Captain America movies. These guys LITERALLY just found out that aliens exist... I mean, they don't know shit and nothing to indicate they have any sort of advanced technology... yet.

Then Fury and Larson are buddy buddy. But that also doesn't make sense... he only saw her previously for like 2 minutes and he saw her shoot fire (or something) out of her hand, but he is all nonchalant about it. THEN apparently there is a trick to determine is someone is a Skrul or not by asking them questions. So Larson proceeds to question Fury... HOW DOES THIS MAKE SENSE??? SHE DOESN'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT HIM. HE COULD LITERALLY LIE, BE A SKRUL, AND SHE WOULDN'T KNOW THE DIFFERENCE based on the information the movie has chosen to give us.

Then her and Fury go to a secret USAF and NASA base. So yeah, apparently Fury trusts her enough for some reason. Whatever. The guards/security of the base greet them, then lock them in a room. Buuuut to my knowledge (someone correct me if I am wrong) this is NEVER explained. No one comes and gets them. No one shows up to arrest them. No one does anything. Fury and Larson breakout and thats the end of it. AND BEFORE someone says that shield showed up to arrest them, remember that Fury was the one that called them AFTER they broke out of that room and Fury greeted them upon arrival too... meanwhile no guards do or say anything. No of this adds up.

Then they fly to her friend Rambos house where... the head Skrul seemed to already be even though we KNOW he was at the NASA based in the scene prior due to information in the movie. He literally just SHOWS up in full alien mode and says something to the effect of 'I know who you are' and she is like 'oh, ok, let me hear him out' even though she was in all kill mode before. Head Skrul just so happens to have the "black box" recordings from her flight where she disappeared. Mind you, it is NEVER known or explained how the Skruls came into this information or obtained the disc or whatever.

They all listen together and hear some coordinates. Larson says that those are coordinates relative to our planet and identify something in orbit around the sun. She says this is some 'duh, its obvious' manner which sets up the joke the Skrul makes in that his head scientist couldn't figure it out. Wait, wait, wait, your head scientist couldn't figure this shit out... he deals with actual space travel, spaceships, crazy ass technology and blasters, but he couldn't figure this out?? The very next seen we see the head scientist Skrul guy modifying the plane Larson and Fury flew in on for SPACE FLIGHT with what appears to be EVERYDAY FUCKING ITEMS LAYING AROUND. Granted it is not shown what he is using, but it does show that this alien doesn't have anything around him to use.

The effects did a pretty solid job making Jackson look younger, BUT he is actually significantly older in real life. Yeah, you are like "well duh"... well Jackson can't move like a younger Jackson. So he looks youner, but can't move very well. Explain it off however you like, he fight scense looked like crap. And to be honest, Larsons fight scenes (outside of her blasting sh!t at the end) looked like shit too.

There is a lot of wasted effort on jokes that I know could have been funny, but weren't executed right either due to editting or directing or hell, maybe even acting.

There were wasted moments. Such as a scene at the end (again, others can correct me if I am wrong) she sets up to fight a bunch of people and No Doubt starts playing. I am sorry, terrible 90's choice. But the first guy she hits flies into a jukebox (or at least what looked like an old timey jukebox to me) or a giant radio. I mean no matter what it was, it was wasted potential. Its quiet, she hits him, he hits the jukebox/radio, it turns on and plays a 90's song. Just smart execution. But that wasn't what happened. The song started before the first punch and it was all wasted.

Side note. In one scene, Larson is hooked up to "Intelligence" which displays in some matrix like setting in the mind so it comes with the memories of who it is hooked up to. Anyway, it hooks up to her and she seens "Intelligence" and a record player is playing Come As You Are by Nirvana. She was abducted in 1989. That Nirvana song came out in 1992. How the hell does she know it? Just as an FYI, it is 1995 I believe in the movie.

Anyway, she takes off this power dampener (much like what was shown in Ragnarok with Thor) and her power explodes and she single handedly stops Ronan and his army from launching a strike on the planet by stopping one warhead and throwing it into another, which causes a chain reaction of all like 10 exploding. She does her thing, Ronan says 'Fuck this' and leaves.

A little more to finish some thoughts...

A few more things... 1. why do they need a "lightspeed drive" when all these spaceships use jump points? I don't think the lightspeed drive is explained very much.
2. Why do the Kree hate the Skruls? We know in GotG that the Kree at bigtime assholes, but there is no logic to the motivation of why they want the Skruls so badly. Especially with the information that comes out in the movie such as the Kree starting a war with their peaceful planet for no reason.
3. Larson shoots the engine of this new, Kree built spaceship because she thinks it is what the Kree want... the explosion erupts and blasts Jude Laws character back, he doesn't get any powers, but Larsons character absorbs the blast and thereby gains her powers... one question... why was she able to absorb it? I mean, hell even in the first Hulk movie, they make up some BS reason as to why the radiation effected him differently. Movie me up, tell me what-the-fuck-ever. Just don't leave me in the dark.
4. Larson is given a blood transfusion with Kree blood. OK, whatever. But why is her blood always blue now? I understand that they aren't betting on people understanding enough medical information to question this, but I am. Not to mention that blood is used up and wasted and new blood forms. So did the blue transfusion alter her bone marrow, hemoglobin, etc...? Whatever. After all, I did just ask the movie to tell me anything rather than nothing... but this is stupid.

There are some other PC/leftist agenda stuff in the film such as the talk about "borders", but whatever.

There is a scene where Larson is about to go 1v1 with Law and he stops and says 'prove to me you can beat me without your powers' (as they had fought in the beginning of the movie and this was a focus). She blasts him with her powers and says 'I don't need to prove anything to you' - NOW THAT was a solid feminist moment or one that at least felt organic.

Idk, there is probably more, but I am done for now.

Yep that's a lengthy detailed explanation as what most people described as a disjointed/continuity mess with a character that acts with zero emotion while pushing PC crap, which basically EVERY Disney movie does these days.

**nothing was in orbit around the sun, it was earth lol.

and apparently I only wanted to type the word "is" instead of "in", "if", etc.. lol I should have proof read this thing.

I think this movie is just like Black Panther or Wonder Woman where you go in with too high of expectations because of the reviews. It was terrible IMO because of what I heard about it. But it will probably end up like BP and WW where when I watch it again it will probably end up being a decent movie. But I also have liked all the DC movies because you go into it with such low expectations.

I enjoyed the movie, but I went in with pretty low expectations. The political takes were less pronounced than I was expecting, but there were a few heavy handed head-bashes that I thought were very unneeded (“I’m Just a Girl” during the space station fight for one).

BlackShirt’s critiques are all valid, but IMHO, a lot of those complaints would only be noticed if you are going in looking for them. I get it, though. Sometimes I get into a “hey, I’m just not buying this” mode with a movie. And that’s when I see all those “holes”. This movie was good ENOUGH, I thought, to avoid those rabbit holes though.

you have to take into consideration that Marvel wants to appeal to everyone they can. By having a female or an Asian hero, it expands their viewership. It is just smart business to do that...but you have people getting mad about it and that's stupid.

I am a little surprised Captain Marvel wasn't directed by a woman.

has a woman directed a superhero movie yet?
