"The Fresno State equestrian team may move to the Big 12 Conference starting next season, according to assistant director of communications for the team Travis Blanshan. The move would transfer the Bulldog equestrian team from their conference, the United Equestrian Conference, to the Big 12 Conference."

You are correct. And according to the NCAA, there are only 17 D-1 schools with NCAA-level teams, along with 5 D-2 & 2 D-3. Most likely it will be a one-division sport until it becomes more popular with the smaller schools.
