Sleeper: Marquise Blair, Utah

It feel like no one is talking about Blair, but I think he’s the type of player the NFL will consider in the 60-100 range of the draft. His athleticism needs to check out however, which I would expect given his explosiveness and apparent long speed on tape. Maybe some buzz on Blair gets going after Indy.

@Mebert what information can you provide us with regarding Blair

Searching For Linebacker Depth In 2019 NFL Draft - The Draft Network

Ulysess Gilbert III, Akron
I did not know much about Gilbert before seeing him at the East-West Shrine Game this past January, but when I did finally give him a look, I liked what I saw. He’s a guy who does well in space and can fly through gaps to make tackles at the line of scrimmage. He was a first team All-MAC selection for two straight years with more than 100 tackles in each of those seasons, and tied a school record for most consecutive games played. He’s a guy who can be used as a versatile depth piece at all three base linebacker spots.

Searching For Linebacker Depth In 2019 NFL Draft - The Draft Network

Drue Tranquill, Notre Dame
Had it not been for two unfortunate ACL tears in back-to-back seasons, we may have been talking about Tranquill as a much higher linebacker than a Day 3 pick. But the circumstances are what they are with his injury history.

Tranquill has an extremely high football IQ for being around the game as long as he has, and some team is really going to love that in the draft process. He’ll be a depth rotational linebacker at the next level, and baring any more major injuries, he can really help out on special teams as well.

The draft isn’t just for finding big stars. It’s also about filling out that back end of your roster with good rotational players, good plan B options in case starters get hurt, and regular contributors on special teams. These four could all play important roles in those areas.

Vosean Joseph, Florida
Joseph is a total wildcard. If you watch the LSU game, you’d think this guy could be a Top 50 pick, but then if you watch the Georgia game you’d think he’s nearly undraftable. The truth is somewhere in between.

What you can’t deny is Joseph’s mentality as a linebacker. He will hit you early and often. He’s a physical tone setter, but certainly needs work in coverage if he’s ever going to be more than a rotational linebacker in base formations.

outside of an injury between now and the draft that could jeopardize Murphy's draft status, I propose to you a SportsHoopla bookie money bet, $500 of your money, that CB Byron Murphy doesn't make it to the 2nd round of this years, 2019, draft.

I might do that. Let's see the combine results first.

You'll be bitching when they draft another TE and that TE misses his block consistently and costs the Lions a game or two or gets Stafford hammered and costs him games or a season.

It will take a lot less than that to get me bitching about the Lions.

Not a big fan of Notre Dame players. The tend to be extremely over rated. Tate might be the best one that I can remember.
Do you remember Teo? Guy was supposed to be the second coming of Junior Seau and is just a mediocre NFL'er.

They are saying this dude is the next LeSean McCoy? McCoy went in round 3. Should the Lions pick him if he is available in round 3?

Pro Football Focus notes that FAU RB Devin Singletary ran for 1,027 yards after contact.

Let's put this in perspective. Last year, Virginia RB Jordan Ellis was 57th in the NCAA in rushing with 1,026 yards. That means that Singletary ran for more yards after he was contacted than all but 56 players. Ridiculous. Singletary has concerns because of his size, but the 5-foot-9, 201-pound tailback can make them miss with the best of them, and he's someone you can't arm tackle. We're really excited to see how he performs in the combine.

At only 5-9 I think 200 is pretty stocky. No red flags other than pass blocking. I would be ok to get him in the 3rd and definitely 4th. I would wait to see whats left on the board before determining it.

I like using a 3rd cause it's only a mid to late round 3rd from my understanding. If the lions run blocking can improve. He should be able to find plenty of creases to run through. What I like about him is he is also very patient and will wait for holes to develop.

One last point is if the Lions truly want to be a run first team. They need more than Johnson and ZZ.

Thats also what I liked about KJ and Kareem Hunt. I was not able to spot anyone like that this year but this kid seems to fit the bill.
