I don’t know why Moose is so happy, I’m not thrilled about this but at least Denver has a QB that’s been to a SB and actually did something in the playoffs. Sounds like Moose is a little jealous.
I just realized this is the equivalent of the Chiefs hiring Steve Spagnuolo as a Defensive Coordinator because of 'playoff success'

NFL scraps just never look good

He's probably happy because Flacco sucks, is old, and still has 3 years left on his contract.

Denver's SB odds went down, not up in response to this trade.

Reports from talk radio in Denver today (unsubstantiated and reportedly from multiple inside sources):
  1. Flacco will rework his deal as part of the trade.
  2. Broncos reportedly giving up a 4th round pick in 2019 (they have two).
  3. Broncos are shopping Case Keenum but don't expect much. May try to re-work his deal as a Broncos back-up.
  4. Elway called Keenum this morning before the media release. Was told he will not be the starter in 2019.
  5. Broncos may still take a QB in 2019 or are preparing for someone they covet in 2020.
  6. Broncos feel that Flacco is a slight upgrade over Keenum but mostly he represents a better scheme fit for what they want to do with their offense. Coach Fangio was in Baltimore for two years during Flacco's better days.
Clearly another stop-gap move until they can get their QOTF. If Flacco plays like he has the last two years, this could be a big step backwards. Not sure either of these QB's would be willing to re-work deals that favor the Broncos. As you can imagine, the airwaves are lighting up with all kinds of theories regarding this trade deal.

If Allen becomes the next Von Miller...maybe.

Short of that level of play, probably not. Chubb is on fast track to being a top edge player himself.
Huh? Would seem if Allen becomes a franchise QB it was a bad pick to take Chubb (unless Elway finds his franchise QB). QB far more important than edge rusher.

edit - saw too late you meant the other Allen

Oh...gotcha….lol

If Chubb gives them 8-10 bags a yr....Allen would have to do some special stuff, like make the playoffs before they would have any remorse...lol
OK....but if you saw how bad Denver was last year with an exceptional rookie season by Chubb, you know if Allen plays well he has a better shot to lead his team to the playoffs.

Will he? No clue.

Broncos Super Bowl odds went from 100-1 to 125-1 with the acquisition of flacco

Going to be funny seeing @cdumler7 and oldschool reverse their Flacco debate.:dhd:

Oh man Flacco is elite. He won a Super Bowl and only elite QB's win Super Bowls. I can't wait for the Broncos to now go on a run of 3 straight.

Broncos have about 4 teams they are talking to in trading Keenum. If they get the trade done then he only counts $3 million against the cap. If Flacco doesn't re-work his deal that would mean they traded for Joe Flacco and will be paying $21.5 million instead of the $21 million cap hit if they kept Keenum. This isn't as stupid of a deal as many are making it out to be.

In reality this to me secures that they want to draft Drew Lock. Part of the problem of keeping Keenum is that he is a very different QB than the QB they actually like. Flacco's game is much closer to what Lock brings to the field in being a vertical passing attack. They can now work with one playbook instead of two.

Well let's see...You have Arizona that just hired his college head coach where he set a lot of records. They need a good back up and have a very cheap QB room right now.

There is the Redskins who could see Alex Smith struggling to be ready for the season and them struggling to get any of the top QB's in this draft.

The Giants are another where Keenum's old QB in Shurmur that helped him have such a great year with the Vikings. Wouldn't shock me to see the Giants move on from Manning but need a stop gap starter/quality backup for their rookie.

I dunno man any team that does give up Something for him and that contract is idiotic. Almost as bad as trading for
Flacco

And Vegas agrees

A late round pick for a quality backup QB is not that bad of a deal. Throw in his cap hit if they traded for him would only be $18 million. In QB terms again that is cheap especially if you have a rookie QB to balance things out. It also wouldn't shock me to see a team re-work Keenum's deal giving him a couple of extra years but lowering his cap hit. So say you can get his cap hit down to around $12 million but offer him some guaranteed money again makes a lot of sense. Broncos are working on that now with Flacco to get his cap hit down. They have talked about a deal cutting his cap hit this year by about half with offering him some guaranteed money in return.

This whole situation is not even close to being over. First off the deal hasn't even happened. We are a month out from this deal becoming official so lots can happen in a month. If say Flacco's salary does get cut in half and then they draft a guy like Lock this whole thing makes a ton of sense for the Broncos especially if they can get Keenum traded opening up that cap space.

Well he has helped build the only other AFC team that has done anything over the last 5 years so not sure why people are struggling to have so little faith in him. Yes some of that was Manning but even Manning's last year was terrible yet they won a Super Bowl. So he can find talent.
