Has a college (team) ever relocated?

In the pros it seems a team is relocating every other year recently. So got me to thinking.. and I kind of did a less than half ass search, that gave me nothing.

Has a school that had a football team ever relocated to a different city or state, for any reason?

I would imagine it would have had to happen a long time ago.


Anyway, just something I was wondering.

Miami now plays its games in Miami Gardens, FL, because they tore down the Orange Bowl. But the Orange Bowl was never in Coral Gables either, which is where the Univ. of Miami is located.

The Miami example is simply a change of venue for home games but still close to the college. I mean they were never called the University of Coral Gables in the 1st place. They are the University of Miami and play their games in Miami. For this to fit the criteria the University would have to relocate... When NFL teams move the entire organization moves.

The Wake example makes much more sense to me.

Yeah. Wasn’t real clear but I can’t think of any examples so it’s all I can offer.

oregon state relocated to their current spot today (corvallis) after land grant status was given.


i believe the original town that housed Oregon Ag school was run by a bunch of radical city religious zealots and Oregon took charge and relieved them of duty.

Yes, after the 2007 season the West Virginia mountaineers relocated down to Tuscolusa Alabama. Of all places I know. But right after that a man named Art Modell moved another team from Cleveland back to Morgantown and kept the name the West Virginia Mountaineers. The results on both sides have been damning.

The University of Michigan was suppose to be in the Toledo Strip. The land was lost as part of a peace settlement between Michigan and Ohio.

I can, but no reason to really. There are some good ones still there, and I have no issues with any of them (or you, fook politics). Heck, I miss a few of em, even some I didn't 'care' for, they at least were lively. It's over and I wish everyone would drop it, to be very honest.
That said, I hope we/someone changes the next thread title and leaves rivals completely out of it. That's a good start, lol.
