Someone convinced me a while back that Halladay was one of the elite guys of his era. Not good enough in my opinion though; then again not many who were elected in the last several years have been

If someone needed to convince you that Halladay was one of the elite pitchers of his generation, you should probably come to terms with the fact that you know fuckall.

Utley hit in a bandbox. Kent was underrated as a defender in my opinion.

Utley has more career extra base hits on the road than at home, so I don't think that's helping your argument.

Defensive metrics rate Kent as pretty mediocre. He had poor range, so that's where his defensive game lacked the most. Utley in his prime was one of the best fielders in baseball of any position, not just 2B.

I've posted from the HoF charter that explains what the purpose of the Hall is. If you think Halladay meets the requirement of "legendary" then you should think he belongs. Of course you'd be a simple fuck but you could justify your thinking he belongs.

Would you take Utley over Kent when each was in his prime? Tough call. Neither meets the "legendary" requirement for entrance.

You remind me of Rainman, without the ability to count.

You must be bored, Stanley.

Rogers Hornsby pees in Utley's general direction.
He did say among the best, not the best. Obviously Hornsby and Joe Morgan has better stretches, but outside of those two Utley’s right there with everyone else.

Here's a snippet from their charter:
"The National Baseball Hall of Fame is a nonprofit committed to preserving the history of America’s pastime and celebrating the legendary players, managers, umpires and executives who have made the game a fan favorite for more than a century."
The players I named fit the "legendary requirement" If you think Mussina does then you can feel justified in including him. For my part, reading the above, I'm more than comfortable in saying he does not meet that requirement.
Well you’re wrong. Statistically, Mussina is one of the best 25 pitchers of all time, which actually meets your insane 5 players a generation rule. So even by your own insane guidelines Mussina easily passes the threshold.

Your opinion is as valid as mine. I simply don't agree. There is more to the HoF than simply a player's performance in my opinion. To me, Mussina was very forgettable and that shouldn't be if you're Hall-worthy.

He's here to argue for the sake of arguing.

I’m not giving my opinion, statistically Mussina is a top 25 pitcher of all time; if you want to have a Hall of Feelings, go right ahead. That’s how guys like Harold Baines, Jim Rice and Jack Morris got elected.

Seems to me the problem is that you have a bad memory.

Is there a minimum number of billboards/commercials that the player needs to be featured on to be HOF worthy?

If he shaved his legs, wore panty hose and fur jackets he would have been a lock......

Good lord you are an obstinate one. Your opinion is valid, misguided though it may be. But thank you for allowing me to feel about the Hall the way I do, I appreciate that. I'll use the standard from the HoF that I posted in this thread.
