Speaking of Spector, it's the two year anniversary of this gem.

Edmonton officially passed Calgary Saturday night, in both the macro and micro sense of the word.

The Oilers moved nine points ahead of the Flames in the standings and will not be caught by their rivals this season. In the bigger picture, Edmonton is where Calgary was supposed to be by now, well on their way to being a top-10 National Hockey League team with an long and bright future.

Calgary has been the better franchise for many years. They are not anymore, and are firmly in the chase position from this point forward.

Calgary’s a wild card team at best now, while the Oilers are well in contention for the Pacific Division lead.

It’s a big change in Alberta, and it won’t be changing back soon.

you can make an argument that the canucks are now closer to a stanley cup than the coil lmao

I'd like to hear the argument that they aren't.

There's not really any part of the team dynamic where Vancouver lags behind Edmonton - as a whole their forwards are better, their defence is better, even before Demko showed up their goaltending was at worst on par, I'd rather have Vancouver's coach, I'd rather have Vancouver's farm system.

I would rather have Connor McDavid than any centre on the Canucks but as we're seeing that isn't a formula for success.

Better question: would you rather be in Edmonton's situation right now or Ottawa's? That's really the only Canadian comparable and while I'd probably go with Edmonton based on Ottawa having given up their first rounder in a tank year that changes pretty quickly if they can re-sign Duchene and Stone.

You know the story about how a guy got a house starting with a paper clip and trading up? Chia is going for the paper clip.

By the way, Chia has cancelled practice this morning for a team meeting and there will be media availability afterwards.

saw a tweet recently saying someone is going to regret giving Duchene a payday.
hadn't topped 60 points in four years, shooting 21% this year (anomoly), and turning 30 soon

recipe for regret

High-risk high-reward contract most likely. But someone will give it.

My guess is he ends up a Hab.

Hey @puckhead , weren't you in a band named General Malaise and the Condition? General Soreness is a great twitter handle.

It has to happen to save that embarrassment even if he declined rapidly. Jesus to lose a potential first overall and then the player you traded for would be devastating to that franchise

By the way, Koskinen is 29th in GAA, 28th in save% among goalies who have played 10+ games and he gets 4.5m per year. Never change, Edmonton.
