Bears showed who they really are tonight. Limited offense with substandard quarterback, and poor field goal kicker. Next year they play a first place schedule, no first round pick, and they won’t average 3 first downs a game on third down penalties. They also won’t get so many lucky bounces like they got this year. Next season they will be 8-8 if they are lucky and no playoffs for them. Thankful they took Trubiski instead of Mahomes.

They're still team to beat in the NFCN.

Schedules aren't much different for division teams anymore, Vikings got Saints/Eagles. Bears got Bucs/Giants. So, not a huge swing. Getting LAR on road on a thursday was a disadvantage for MN over getting them at home in december like Chicago

Chicago was 2-2 vs playoff teams, we were 1-6, and had we managed 2-5 bears would've been 4-2 or 3-3 depending on who vikings beat

I agree on them passing on Mahomes. Turbisky is a decent QB and won't be bust like so many other bears QB's, but I have a hard time seeing him be more than a tier 2 QB...you can win a SB with those guys, but harder

NFCN should be interesting.

Pump the breaks there, chief. At the end the day, they ended up being a 12-4 playoff team that was a shanked short field goal away from advancing to the divisional round, where they would have ended up playing the #2 seeded Rams, a team they'd proven more than capable of beating in the regular season before. So it wouldn't have been out of the realm of real possibilities that they were an NFC Championship caliber team this year. Not to mention, they finished 6+ wins ahead of what almost anyone would have placed them at before the season. They were a good team.

Meanwhile, we were an 8-7-1 team that was widely considered to be Superbowl contenders prior to the start of the season that consistently took huge dumps against quality opponents (and even the inexusable Bills loss). We beat exactly 1 winning team this year - the Eagles, and that was when Carson Wentz was freshly back and rusty and before Foles went back in. The Bears on the other hand did manage to beat two playoff teams, the Seawhawks and the Rams, both of whom we lost to. Lastly, they swept us, including our humiliating home loss to them with the playoffs on the line for us.

So the division still goes through Chicago next season until further notice. We are not a team that has any business tooting our own whistle and talking crap going into next season. Just the reality.

I don't disagree that next year will be tougher. However, keep in mind that our schedule is only different by two games. Plus, the future of Payton/Brees in New Orleans doesn't exactly seem certain - which is one of the games that will be unique to our individual schedules.

However, I am curious where you think they caught "lucky" bounces. Their season ended on a rather unlucky bounce. They lost 5 combined games in regular and post-season by a combined 15 points. Lol... that is unheard of. Every single solitary loss came down to the absolute final play of the game. Every single one.

Two losses were in OT. They lost two games directly due to Parkey misses last second or OT. They lost to the Patriots by a grand total of one foot as time expired - a game where they gave up two SPT's TD's. Their only two allowed all year. They lost one game in OT with their backup QB. One loss came after blowing a 20 point second half lead, where they still win if Kyle Fuller just catches a ball that gently hit him in the numbers for a game solidifying INT.

Their victories resulted in a combined +138 point differential - which I believe was 3rd in football. Their average margin of victory was 12.75 and their average margin of loss was 3 points. There's far more to suggest they were actually unlucky, rather than lucky.

I think Trubisky's steady upward trajectory as a QB is promising. He's not quite there yet... but if he keeps trending upward at the same pace and makes progress again next season. He'll be flirting with that 2nd tier of QB's. And who knows? Maybe it just clicks. He has all the physical tools.

I think he grew up in the 4th quarter. Those were two very clutch drives that included some big time throws.

So far as Mahomes - he looks unreal. However, let's see where everything goes over the next 3 years or so.

That is a big advantage for Chicago. Tampa and the Giants suck, New Orleans and Philly don't.

I would say the Bears biggest advantage over Minnesota was that they beat them head-to-head two out of two times.

The Bears also played the game vs NYG with their backup QB who fumbled 4 times and threw 2 INT's. So, it didn't wind-up netting them an advantage. Meanwhile, Minny played Philly when they were still in the midst of their first half lull.

That's why getting all worked up over schedule is silly. A lot of different factors go into it. NYG should have been an easy win - but then you wind-up having to roll your backup QB out there.

Especially when you're looking a year into the future... every year teams who should suck wind-up being good. Every year teams you bank onto contend accumulate injuries or disappoint.

It's possible Mitch figures it out and the league figures out Mahomes. But Mahomes threw 50 TD's and 12 Int's. Mitch threw 24 TD's and 12 INT's.

Right now it's not even close which QB is better and I'm glad Chicago passed on Mahomes. That doesn't mean I don't think Mitch is good, I think Mahomes has a higher ceiling and is already the better QB

It's an advantage, but not as big as some make it out to be

I'm not going to disagree with any of that.

I'm simply saying that Trubisky could close that gap a little. For instance, he could throw 35-10 next year while Mahomes statistically regresses slightly (which is probably more likely than not - 50 is hard to repeat). Then you factor in that Trubisky should rush for roughly 400-600 yards every year and it's really not THAT big of an advantage to Mahomes.

I don't expect Mahomes to maintain 50TD's/year

anyone who does is probably a little nuts

I'm still willing to bet SI will be pimping the packers this offseason as the team to beat in the NFC

You are both missing the point. I said that the difference in that part of the schedule favored Chicago and it did. The fact that Chicago didn't or couldn't take advantage of that doesn't change anything.

No one is disputing that the Giants/Tampa is easier than NO/Philly.

We're saying it didn't wind-up mattering, so your point is moot.

I think those days are finally behind us (or at least on hiatus) and they'll actually have to prove it for once.

I agree it helps, but it's not a HUGE difference. I do believe the difference was more than 2 games prior to last realignment

Not sure about all that but I bet that kicker won’t be on the team next year
