The 2018 College Football season began with a late afternoon kickoff in Amherst, MA and it ends tonight in Santa Clara, CA.

The distance between McGuirk Stadium and Santa Clara Stadium is a little over 3000 miles. For the teams that tried, but failed to make it to this stage and especially those teams who found themselves in the way of Alabama and/or Clemson, the journey has felt like a force march from Coast to Coast in that time.

The Clemson Tigers arrive with the ACC Championship and a Cotton Bowl victory over Notre Dame. The Alabama Crimson Tide arrive with the SEC Championship and an Orange Bowl victory over Oklahoma. Both teams arrive 14-0. After tonight, either the Tigers or the CT end the season at 15-0, the Best Win-Loss Record in FBS, the Plus-One Invitational trophy, and bragging rights as the best team at the FBS level and the NCAA Pound-for-Pound #1 ranking.

When UMass handily defeated Duquesne to start the 2018 campaign, kickoff temperature in Amherst was 78 degrees with thick humidity. Tonight, the season ends with the dry California night air for CU and UA, with what should be 60 degrees by kickoff under a cloudy night sky and a soft breeze.

This is the Plus-One Bowl as I like to call it, but it's really to see who is the clear #1 at the collegiate level of American Football.
