many fans think he doesn't deserve it. but he's better than some players in there and one of my 5 all time favorite white sox.
CONGRATS HAROLD!
CONGRATS HAROLD!
I don’t think he belongs in but I’m not going to bitch. Great player and classy dude
al kaline was a shoo in for the hall (selected in his first year of eligibility). is harold really be all that far behind?
baines and kaline both played 22 years. kaline had 208 more ab's than baines
harold had 384 home runs, al kaline had 399 (kaline had .7 more home runs per year)
harold had 2866 hits, kaline had 3007 (kaline had 6 more hits per year)
harold had 1628 rbi's. kaline had 1582
harold batted .289, kaline .297
baines had more rbi's and a better batting average than mike schmidt, harmon killebrew, andre dawson, willie mccovey, willie stargell, billy williams, ralph kiner (just among outfielders)
out of 260 h.o.f. players baines is 24th in rbi's, 114 in average, 34th in home runs, 93rd in ops.
maybe people forget how good harold really was?

Baines is 313th all-time in OPS behind the likes of Mike Napoli, Keith Hernandez (who actually has a case for being in the HOF), Carlos Lee, Luke Scott, Hideki Matsui and Boog Powell. His 121 OPS+ is tied for 340th all-time with Jason Bay, Jeff Burroughs, Mike Greenwell, Mike Hargrove and Chili Davis.
38.7 WAR in over 11000 PA. He averaged 1.8 per season.
nice player with a very long career, but an absolute joke he's in the HOF.
Some people refuse to understand anything but numbers...but this is a joke of a statement.
He's right, it is a joke that he's in... Be honest, how many great seasons did Baines have in his career?
That's bullsh*t. I grew up watching Baines. He was every bit as popular and as important as the Big Hurt to this franchise...and was the heart and soul of the team for well over a decade. There is no statistical criteria that can measure some things...and his stats are perfectly fine and to call them a joke is a joke in and of itself. The fans love/loved Harold. The players love/loved Harold. The coaches love/loved Harold. If that's not being famous...I don't know what is. I'm only 40...but he would only be second to Thomas for the White Sox franchise during my lifetime.
cool, and the Big Hurt was 1000x better at hitting. That's bullsh*t. I grew up watching Baines. you know a player doesn't have a good argument when fans discount stats and say "he was the heart and soul" of the team. lmao

I said "his stats are fine." 34th all time on the RBI list is pretty f*cking impressive. And, I'm sure unlike you, I witnessed him play in person in a very, very non-hitter friendly old Comiskey Park many, many times.
.
And yet, he only finished in the top 10 in the AL in RBI a whopping 2x during his entire career (that's not in MLB - that's just the AL)....so what does that tell us about his RBI totals? That he was a big-time run producer, or that he just was a solid run producer who played for a long time?
