Every team has some, even Bama(I saw that punter, don't try to hide it)
1. This is a weak senior class. Last year's senior class included Nick Chubb, Sony Michel, Lorenzo Carter, Davin Bellamy, Aaron Davis, Dominick Sanders, John Atkins and Isaiah Wynn. This year we have Deandre Baker, DeAndre Walker, Lamont Galliard and Terry Godwin. All good players, but not near the leaders that last year's team had.
2. We have young talent waiting, but our linebacking group is a big downgrade over last season. You don't replace Roquan Smith, Lorenzo Carter and Davin Bellamy and expect to improve or have the same production. I'd like to see Adam Anderson get more playing time, but guys like Tae Crowder and Juwan Taylor are getting significant playing time, and they're not horrible, but they aren't great either. Last year, our linebackers in pass coverage and linebackers rushing the passer were a strength. It's a weakness this year.
3. It's a really talented, but really young o-line. Other than Gaillard who is a senior, every starter on the o-line is a blue chip recruit, and there's blue chip recruits backing up every position on the line. You can see the potential, but with Ben Cleveland out, and Kinnley banged up, there's two true freshmen and a redshirt freshman starting, and they make your typical freshman mistakes.
4. Playcalling. I don't know what's going on here, but it looks like Jim Chaney is trying to make this a pass first team. We pretty well went away from the run game in the first half yesterday despite the fact it was having success(Swift and Holyfield were both getting chunks most every touch, but they got 12 and 7 carries). And this wasn't the first time either. The run game is the bread and butter of the offense, and despite it being a young o-line, it is a massive o-line, bigger than most NFL o-lines. Wearing down defensive fronts was the plan early in the season, and it worked, but we've went away from it.
5. Justin Fields is being under utilized. I'm not saying he needs to take Fromm's job, Fromm had a bad game yesterday, but he didn't get a lot of help either, but there needs to be more packages for Justin Fields. He's too good of an athlete to be on the sidelines most of the game.
