"were"

I am of course too young for Sam Bowie- but i was an OSU fan that watched Oden- and I remember he was great and hugely hyped- but i also remember he was injured during that sole season at OSU.

Callinga 1 year college player "transcendent" seems a litle premature

Oden played nearly 30 min/game for 32 (of 39 games) for Ohio State in his one year of college ball. The games he missed were early in the season as he recovered from wrist ligament surgery. That was a predictor of his injuries to his right knee (microfracture surgery), foot, left knee (chipped knee cap), left knee again (fractured patella), then ultimately two microfracture surgeries on that left knee.

Your memory? Not so good.

I understand your point.

But, it's apples to oranges.

We can forgive the 76ers for taking Iverson over Kobe because the Answer had a hell of a career.

But, we can't give the Nets a pass for Kerry Kittles.

The Dream was a savage.

But, Jordan was the GOAT.

The Rockets missed by inches, Portland missed by miles.

Not the same thing....AT ALL.

Kobe had said he wouldn't play for the Nets, so they passed. Kobe forced his way onto the lakers

If the question is who has made the most draft mistakes, the Wizards have to be in the conversation.

Kwame Brown is one of the biggest busts of all time at #1 and they have a never ending list of irrelevant players they have wasted top 10 picks on. Also, one must consider their history of trading away of picks and young budding stars for marginal vets as part of this equation.

I would give the Wizards a pass and put the focus directly on Michael Jeffrey Jordan. Kidd-Gilchrist (#2), Vonleh (#9), Zeller (#4), Kaminsky (#9), Morrison (#3) and Kwame (#1) is one hell of a resume.

They could've forced the Lakers to trade with them instead of the Hornets I guess.

I remember the Kwame Brown situation. Jordan literally broke him as a man lol.

Bobcats easily have to be the worst. They have had 1 singular pick that has worked out well in Kemba Walker. After that it's been one huge mistake after another.

From 94-08, the Warriors were right there with the best of them in terms of drafting terrible players. During that time period they passed on guys like Kevin Garnett, Tracy McGrady, Kobe Bryant, etc. Hell they even drafted Vince Carter and traded him for Antawn Jamison. Jamison was a good player in his own right but Carter was a franchise changer.

They had maybe 3 solid draft picks in that time, Gilbert Arenas, Monta Ellis and Jason Richardson. Gilbert and Monta were both fliers with 2nd round picks.

Some great 1st round picks during that time:
Patrick O'Bryant
Anthony Randolph
Ike Diogu
Todd Fuller
Clifford Rozier

Yes, I remember that.

Concede.

How about James Harden over Curry.

But, not Johnny Flynn.

That work better?

I mean, I think the Charlotte Hornets should be considered just because we traded Kobe Bryant away. I know he kinda made that situation happen, but I mean, we didn't have to trade the guy. Coulda just let him sit.

But we also drafted Kaminsky over Myles Turner and Devin Booker and we drafted Malik Monk over Donovan Mitchell.

Heck who was the last superstar level player to play more than one year of college?

Few off the top of my head:

Kawhi
Curry
Harden

Other all star level players:
Draymond
Klay
Jimmy Butler
Paul George
Gordon Hayward
Dame
Oladipo
Blake Griffin

That's since Curry's draft class in 09. I'm sure there are more, but those were all I could remember.

Portland passed over MJ because they already had some guy named Clyde Drexler and needed a center.

Hilarious that a Cavs fan started this thread.

Why? Cavs have a pretty good track record with the draft. Lebron, Kyrie, very few busts, and the ones they did flipped them into Kevin Love.

Considering how many busts there are in the draft and how much of a crap shoot it is the Cavs have drafted pretty well compared to most franchises.

Do you have a list of better players they could have taken or something?

LA teams??? Aminu over Hayward and PG13, McDyess over Garnett. Olakowandi over anyone (Dirk or Pierce), Wright over Kobe/Nash. Lamond Murray over Eddie Jones, Danny Ferry over Glenn Rice, Reggie Williams over Pippen, Benoit Benjamin over Mullin/Karl Malone, Lancaster Gordon over Otis Thorpe...

It's not always huge and glaring, but I don't think they've ever picked the best available. Maybe Blake Griffin, but I believe James Harden went a few picks later.

Was going to say Minnesota. just bad, especially with PG's and big names that didn't last (Rider, Laettner, Marshall), but Garnett and Allen back to back was nice.

And past 20 or so years... Lakers?
- Didn't draft Kobe
- best pick has been Marc Gasol who didn't help them
but they've usually not had good picks or picks at all. So less bad, more about lack of them.

thats for sure.

pretty fucking hilarious coming from a Wizards fan if you ask me- one of the least successful franchises in North American Sports history.
