No to Perez. Sounds like another band-aid rotation but until the rebuild is complete we don't need to spend millions on TORPS. Go with as many young guys as possible to develop our own if possible in 2019.
Agree on Perez but doesn't the article say that few of the young guys are close to being ready for 2019? What do we do then? Minor, ?, ?, ?, ?. Possibly Jurado but I think from what I've seen he needs more time. Do we go out and sign 4 or 5 level 5 starters and kiss off the year and hope that some of the kids are ready in 2020 or 2021? And what if they aren't

By the end of 2019 we will see a little better what direction to take. Would expect we will have a couple ready and add a FA or two. Just a wild guess b/c we don't have any way to know what will develop in the meantime.

But that doesn't address 2019 season. Why not address 2 FA starters this off-season then we would only have to address 3 starter slots in 2020 assuming Minor leaves after 2019.

It will probably be Mendez and Sampson and two FA to go with Minor.

The young guys who have a chance to fill in the top 3 or 4 slots in the rotation won't start arriving until well into next season at the earliest. The best of them won't be here until sometime during the 2020 season at the earliest.

That works for me but I'm not convinced that we have a future #1 at the MiL level that will be at the MLB level until 2021 or 2022 so why not sign a #1 now to build around while our's develops

The reasoning could be that usually those guys aren't available until they reach an age where they only have a couple of years left to pitch at an elite level. It very well could be seen as a waste of money to bring them in 2-3 years before we have a realistic shot at going to the WS.

Makes sense but I would rather spend on 1 quality pitcher than on 2 or 3 barely adequate pitchers

The total outlay to that one guy will probably be $125 million over 5 years versus maybe $35-40 million for 2 years of 2 or 3 of those other types of guys. That is estimating conservatively for an ace. The savings will come in handy when we are ready to compete for a WS.

Again logical just at my age I want to us to be competitive earlier not later

I understand that completely. That is why Game 6 still haunts me.

don't believe either Mendez or Sampson or Jurado are ready for the stress of a 162 game (30 starts) and need to be in AAA to start the year with them being brought up during August or September. might as well load up with pitchers like Gallardo, Francisco Liriano, Miguel Gonzalez, Chris Tillman, Jaime Garcia or even Drew Pomeranz on 1 year deals to back Minor in 2019 that way we go into 2020 and the new stadium with a completely new rotation
