That whole era was a blur for me as it was later teenage years....the only thing that really sticks out for me is McSorely

It was an amazing feeling being at the GWF, McSorley getting into a fight and the crowd chanting Marty Marty for a while. He was definitely a fan favorite, and he really evolved as a player and leader the last 3-4 years of his career in LA. He was having a solid season with 10 goals in 1995-96 when the Kings traded him to NY, his salary had to go in what we would find out was smoke and mirrors financially from McNall.

I'm not sure if any of you have ever met him or stood next to him, but he is a massive man. He barely wore shoulder pads and the dude was huge, built like a bear.

I would just love to hear the story on how he ended up there from the KHL. Looking at his stats, he hasn't played decent hockey in about 5 years even in the KHL. I remember during two of the rebuilding years carried LA on his own (2006-07, 2008-09).

I remember Taylor describing him as a "Jason Allison down low" when I talked to him right after he was drafted and he was right, he was almost impossible to take off the puck when the cycle started. I think he did have another gear that never got reached in the NHL, which is probably why LA moved on from him after almost 10 years.

Dude just turned 36 in June, there are lots of 35+ guys still playing in the NHL so I'm not sure what happened with him.

Pacioretty traded to Knights on Monday:

Pacioretty trade took 2 months to complete and came down to wire

Not sure how I missed that one, I read it during my kid's soccer practice tonight at 5:30. After the trade he signed a 4 year/$28 million extension, apparently the hold up with LA at the draft was he didn't want a 6 year term (which was obvious lower AAV knowing LA's cap situation). Looking at the assets involved, you have to think one of Pearson or Toffoli was involved and probably Anderson-Dolan or one of the better defenders.

So McPhee, who spent a 2018 1st, 2019 2nd and a 2021 3rd for Tatar just moved him and one of their top prospects (Nick Suzuki) and a 2019 2nd to get rid of that mistake. The Habs retained 10% of Pacioretty's salary ($450,000) through the end of this year but the Knights retained $500,000 per year (about 9.4%) for 3 more years of Tatar's salary to get rid of him. Expensive 6 month failed experiment.

I must be missing something because Cap Friendly is showing Vegas with a 2nd in 2019, but from the Tatar and Pacioretty trades, they shouldn't have one - anyone know what's gong on there?

At least he dumped a crappy contract/mismatched player in Tatar quickly but they have been spending money like mad this summer - they had about $24 million to begin with and are now down to about $9 million and still need to sign Theodore, who is arguably their best defender. It doesn't help Schmidt just got suspended for 20 games for testing positive for a PED so they need to sign Theodore. They got their one year pass with cheap players, now it was time to pony up and enter cap hell like most NHL teams. Ain't house money no mo.

And lastly, Watson suspended 27 games plus preseason for his DV incident:

While it isn't a slap on the wrist, it isn't Voynov territory either.

From the ESPN article regarding the aforementioned Watson and Voynov incidents:

Former Los Angeles Kings defenseman Slava Voynov is still suspended indefinitely for a 2014 incident. He is now seeking reinstatement. Deputy commissioner Bill Daly told ESPN last week that the NHL had only just begun investigating Voynov, who also will have a hearing with Bettman. Daly could not offer a timetable but said a decision on Voynov would come "certainly not before training camp."

Maybe the NHL/Bettman thinks Voynov got off easy by self-deporting to Russia??? Doesn't sound like the NHL and NHLPA are exactly in a rush to meet about the Voynov situation, but they sure got the Watson case "resolved" right on the eve of training camps. Watson is suspended for preseason + the 27 games, but I am guess he can still take part in training camp???

Could be, Daly also made it a point to say Voynov "did not cooperate" with the NHL investigation and went off on his own to address the legal issues. Not sure if that rubbed them the wrong way and this is how they are going to get back at him because it made them look bad.

I would assume he cannot participate in camp, when a player is suspended they cannot accompany the team or partake in team activities. The Kings were fined $100,000 if I recall because Voynov was skating with them after he was arrested and suspended but not yet convicted so I would assume Watson will have to train on his own or with a non NHL team.

Day 1 Notebook: Carter, Forbort, Vilardi updates - LA Kings Insider

Sort of lot in here to unpack with injuries. Saying Carter might never be the same after that laceration to his leg, but that he's only now getting closer to where he was before the injury. Not great news. Also Vilardi out with back issues, so they might not really get a good look at him in camp, as he's week-to-week. Lastly, Forbort still having some issues, so he's not quite back yet either.

Positives are the they believe Toffoli and Pearson are looking better and are ready to make up for last year.

But we'll see. Bummer on Carter, but it makes sense that he didn't really look like himself as the Playoffs came around. Stevens saying he didn't have any of his explosiveness.

I knew that would happen, I had to eat crow a bit during the season as he did well upon return...I have been worried about the long term with him. He will always have his shot and be a scoring threat but without his surprising breakaway ability his scoring will diminish....time will tell

Two faces to start the season, as we all suspected Wagner and JAD start the season in LA with Brown and Brodzinski starting the season on IR and out indefinitely. Also as we suspected, Etem released from his PTO - hope he gets a shot somewhere, he had a really solid preseason and camp and showed he can still play in the NHL.

Five new jersey numbers
- Amadio from 52 to 10
- JAD 28
- Wagner 51
- Brodzinski back to 76 from 17 with Kovalchuk in town
- LaDue from 38 to 2. Make Matt Greene proud dude

Hope the kids show they can play when it matters so some of these older guys on deals can get moved.

Jones was garbage this game, I watched the highlights and he gave up at least 3 softies that an NHL goalie should make.

Reminded me of when he was a King, he was brilliant most of the time but every now and again he would be awful. He is better than Storr ever was but has the similar "you don't know what you may be getting tonight" issue but to a much lesser degree.

This was a big reason why some people felt he was a legitimate NHL starter but wasn't going to be one any time soon behind Quick and others felt he was a product of the team defense and shot suppression strategy. I see both side of the coin and can see valid arguments for both.

As the game went on he feels they got stronger? The Sharks gave up 4 goals in the last 22 minutes. Not sure what game he was playing but that certainly doesn't scream "stronger" to me.

I would have liked him too but I don't think the success he is having in Buffalo would be replicated here. Eichel and Kopitar are two different kinds of centers not to mention the suporting cast. He chose Buffalo to up his value and he will get paid handsomely this summer whether it's with Buffalo or not.

Assuming things would have went the same, Slick Willie would put him on the fourth line with 5:08 ATOI all game and keep him on the shelf for any PP time and then bitch that he isn't producing.

Ya, I like skinner but he wont br able to carry a team with the $$ he will want. I think the pressure will get to him which is unfortunate....he just isnt "the guy" to lead a team
