I have a bucket truck that has been sitting for a few months. I tried to start it yesterday. It would crank and crank but would not turn over.
After checking the gas, it was getting dark so I went inside.
I think I will first try spraying a bit of starter fluid in the carb. Is that what you would suggest?
I'm not much of a engine tinkerer besides changing the oil, plugs and minor stuff like that.

It's a 1985 C30 V8 5.7L gas engine

You're on the right track. A squirt of starter fluid will get it to kick if there is spark present, if that doesn't get it to at least fire up for a few seconds you have a spark issue.

Do you have a friend that knows how to check a spark plug wire for juice?

It's an '85 so it may be carbeurated which is is to verify if gas is getting to the combustion chamber. The next is spark. You can pull a plug wire and while the engine is turning hold the plug wire near something metal like an engine lift bracket, you should be able to see a spark jump. Work your way through the usual suspects.

You kick it three times (right front tire is suggested) then call it some names

Why do you have a bucket truck?

Kill it. It's the only humane thing to do...
