if the PGA was an indication, Phil's game is not close to Tiger's. Wouldn't pay to watch it.

Well - look who is at the top of the leader bd - at least for now. I am not a Mickelson fan, but I feel that you have to give folks credit & Mickelson is certainly someone who can win at any given time (or could be awful but you say that for lots of folks - look at Johnson & Thomas missing the British Open cut).

This might have been entertaining a decade ago.

Now we can pay to watch Tiger blame his back or a group of small children taking photos for his poor play, while Phil tries to hit a right-handed shot out of the top of a Sycamore tree on 18, with a 3-stroke lead.

I think you can argue that Phil has been the most consistent playing into his 40s ( I think he has a few yrs on Tiger)...but for this event (if that's what they want to call it)...if both were coming off a major win, they could've gotten triple the people tp buy it, but two guys on the downside of HOF careers...as a TV event...okay...as a PPV event...eh...not seeing it.

Phil should invite Tiger to dinner the night before and find a way to give his back a good twist...maybe he could swear that Tiger is choking on his steak and administer a thrashing "Heimlich".

Make Daly the color commentator for this event & I might just watch this - he would be awesome in that role (in a forum like PPV it if were uncensored).

Tiger is a massive ego manic.

So I'm trying to figure out what the plan is for when the PPV sales are a complete flop.
There is no way Tiger could handle that embarrassment.

Somehow he managed to survive the scandals, back issues & those embarrassing mug shots & being pulled over. i somehow think that his ego will survive low #s on PPV. Heck - with all of the recent backlash they might pull back on PPV or change the way it will be setup due to $$ concerns (from promoters).

He survived all of those things because of the power he has in the golf world.
Low sales in this event could be seen as a sign of his diminishing power in the sport.

Really? Is that why the ratings have been much higher in the tourneys where he played this season as compared to the same ones he missed last season? Again - this could be due to viewers who love him & those that hate him.

The PPV sales could falter, but I believe that would be due to all of the other choices & a reluctance to fork over $$ for this type of event. Mickelson & Tiger are both still very popular figures in the sports world. That is fact & is not based on liking or hating either one of them.

I don't think so...not when his presence in these recent events are driving numbers way up. Maybe it's newbies that missed the 1st wave, but the fringe golf fan is still very much into Tiger Woods.

I like Tiger and Phil, but no way would I spend a dime on this PPV event.

A low number in this PPV event only means that the American public is not foolish...they know both Phil and Tiger are passed their prime and on the grand scale, this event means next to nothing. If they gave people a reason to watch aside from lining their pockets with money they don't need...maybe.

They might have to cancel this thing. The pre ppv sales are going to be embarrassingly low. They'll just say that Tiger tweaked his back or Phil's arthritis has acted up and it has to be postponed. Then never get around to re-scheduling yet. Or take it off ppv and let the golf channel show it for free. Then they'll get some viewers.

No, he still moves the needle big time. Hardcore golf fans have moved on. But the ratings and crowds at his recent event show that the average sports fan has not. That said this PPV is a big mistake.

Good to see that somebody will be watching FL ST in late Nov. I would guess that they will be a major non-factor by that time.
