Maryland game is all downside for Texas. USC game is mostly upside. Texas loses close to USC and people’s opinion on both teams are probably unchanged. Texas wins and here comes the hype train

Why not? I might be wrong, but 7th in a 10-team league means there are 6 teams above them and 7th in a 14 team league means there are 6 above them. Where did I mess up?

You are. Finishing 7th in a 14 team league means 6 finished ahead of you and 7 finished below. Meaning 7th is pretty much a middle of the pack team. Finishing 7th in a 10 team league means 6 ahead and 3 below. Meaning you suck

In my opinion the best way to compare a fourteen team and a ten team conference, take the top three, the middle four, and the bottom three. You got the best teams, the worst teams and then the average teams. You get rid of some decent teams and some fairly bad teams.

If you have a better way, I’m open to hearing it.

We are talking about a team that didn't win it's division last year, got to play LSU twice one season, watched Texas' starting QB go out on the first drive and played the most over rated team in BCS history (ND).

What I see is a conference who's best team could not make the playoffs, and lost to Oklahoma pretty handily, got blown out by Iowa, etc.

Then I see teams like Wisconsin who got by solely on easy schedule and they played most of their bowl games against Pac12 teams, and had an advantage against other conferences due to not sending teams to the playoffs. Peaking orders change.
