Dean was also already kinda fucked by that point too. It may have cost him NH (he was leading polling before Iowa but it may have shifted anyway after Kerry's win there) but the momentum had gone to Kerry and Edwards by the time Iowa rolled around and NH is never really as important as it's made out to be anyway (going back to 92, the eventual Democratic candidate in non-incumbent years have only won NH 2 of 5 times and one of those was Kerry taking advantage of Dean's squandered lead).
