I really don't know how much trade value Love has at this point. He hasn't had a healthy season in 3 years and only about 50% of seasons would be considered healthy.

He is also on the last year of his contract.

I agree. Which is why I defer to the personality that is Pop. That doesn't seem like the type of guy that's wanting to help out the Lakers and would consider that a last resort.

Not really - but I think they would offer Lonzo Ball up to dump the Deng contract - Lonzo Ball was a disappointment any way and his dad causes to much problems - Lakers have 34 million signed, they have 60 million - that's 35 for James, and 25 for Chris Paul - They have bird rights to Randle and then they would be at their capacity. No question though they need to dump it. It's going to cost the Lakers to do that

Yeah, the Spurs are not going to willingly deal with the Lakers. But they also aren't stupid/shortsighted enough to not deal with them if they have the best offer, just to spite Kawhi or just because it's the Lakers.

The whole key to the Lakers having the best offer is likely Kawhi himself. He has to drive down his trade value by continuing to say he won't re-sign anywhere else.

Even at that, I'd still say the chances are 50/50 at best. I think that a mid/lower level playoff team would probably make them a better offer to try to bolster their chances of a deeper run.

I agree the Spurs would prefer to send Kawhi east, I don't think they will if the best offer is from the West, even if it's the Lakers. The difference would have to be significant though.

1. They didn't just say they weren't looking to trade him. They said they were looking to build around him. It's the lying season, so they may very well be saying that to drive up the asking price though.

2. I'm not holding my breath on what Lebron's going to do. Windy says he has it at Lebron 51% to the Lakers regardless of what happens with Kawhi or PG. Isn't he the Lebron whisperer? lol

The thing folks who are saying that Lebron won't come to the Lakers by himself are forgetting is that the Lakers have 2 max slots.

The question would be, if PG stays in OKC and the Spurs don't trade Kawhi to the Lakers, would Lebron go to the Lakers anyway knowing that they will preserve the space to sign someone else next year?

That's my line of thinking. For the Spurs, it sends the message that they're the quality franchise that they perceive to be. Sure, it may not net them the best deal potentially, but the long term message is what they're probably aiming for. If the Spurs eventually trade Kawhi to the Lakers and give into their demands, other players will likely feel that they can pull off the same stunt.

You don't know that. Looking at their roster, acquiring Love will fit with their apparent plan of getting as many white big men as possible. They already have Mozgov, Hernangomez, Kaminsky, and Zeller

Best case scenario besides him staying long term is what the guys on NBA TV said:

You sign young, athletic talent to build around him and let him play with the team for a few months. Not too many though. Maybe 2. If he still wants out, trade him and hope the offers are still on the table. That way, you have young talent who can help you compete at a somewhat high level, and then you trade him and get another decent young player/s.

The only problem is that you can't guarantee to build a winning team around him cause you have to have players agree to sign, and who's going to sign if you don't have a commitment from your main guy?
