Well call it what you want I feel that going to the hof and winning championships isnt in canos priorities I think he plays the game for money which is why he left NY and came to Seattle because we offered him a more lucrative contract.

My theory is that after dealing with injuries along with a subpar season in 2017 that he might take some kind of enhancements to help him perform so that he can still keep getting paid. Its not like teams get to recoup any money from a player when they get caught with PEDs. Not that this is related but if I was a below average baseball player and taking steriods would make me a ton of money I would definitely risk it. I would leave the game with a bad reputation but hey atleast ill make a million if not a couple hundred thousand.

I disagree with this theory.

His contract is guaranteed so it doesn't matter what his production is when relating his play to his contract. To me his positive test actually contradicts your point in that it tells me that he actually cares a lot about winning and would do anything to be on the field; even if it means masking something.

I totally get the negative reaction to this, and most of it is well deserved. If there ever was a silver lining to this its that we have an aging ballplayer with one of the fattest contracts in baseball still focused on playing at a high level. Although I wish he never did this because I think he has the talent to excel above most, I find a little positive in that we didn't end up with a Josh Hamilton.

I do keep seeing this 11million dollar number getting thrown around related to his suspension.

Can someone fill me in, do we get to recoup that while he is suspended?

If so, why are we not lining up to snag some pitching?

His suspension is unpaid, so the 11 million is the money the Mariners figured to spend that they will not for 2018

I don't think he is dumb and is surrounded by people who want a piece of his pie. Regardless if he is or was being a moron or knows nothing about medicine he has people around him who would double check what he is taking if it was an accident.
Yea I definitely wasn't implying he is dumb. I actually think the opposite but he did a dumb thing which I don't think is debatable.

Ya, I know. I was just more agreeing that there is no such thing as accidentally putting something in your system as a professional athlete that comes up enough on a test to get you suspended. I've just never understood that excuse of it being an accident, kind of like A-Rod's first excuse before he admitted it.

Agreed about selling. If you include the Mariners there's 5 teams vying for 4 playoffs spots, the other 4 being the Yankees, Red Sox, Astros and Angels. And if you have to pick one of those 5 that's going to fail to make the playoffs, I think we all know which one it will be. That said I wouldn't trade all those guys, just some of them. The Mariners don't need to become the next Marlins. I'd be willing to trade: Cruz, Cano, Seager, Gamel and Felix if you can find takers, but I would keep the rest.
If they trade Cruz, Seager ect, they aren't gonna be contenders for a while and Segura, Haniger, Gordon will all be around 30 by next season. Seems like selling everyone is the best option if they get the right offers.

Will Cano and Felix have any value at this point?

If someone is desperate for a closer, Diaz may be able to fetch a pretty big haul.

Cano's trade value diminished substantially once he got suspended. There will be questions regarding how he will perform after the suspension. Even before that, his contract is a disaster. He could come off of a career year and I'd find it unlikely he'd have much trade value at his age with his contract. Even without the suspension, he would be hard to move.

Felix has absolutely no trade value. We'd have to eat most of his contract and we'd receive peanuts in exchange.

Neither of them are viable trade options. If anything, we'd have to ship prospects just to get other teams to take on their contracts.

With Dee Gordon moving back to the infield for a while, that means we have an open spot in the outfield...

...Ichiro?

no way

san diego has too many outfielders...there looking to trade one...i..(me) have always liked franchy cordero cuz he can steal bases and hit Hr's L/L..he is only 23 yo...he is fast good and fast.can play all three outfield spots..he strikes out too much trying to hit HR's..his obp is not as high as you would want it to be

but he has improved over last year in all stats so far
makes you want to see what edgar can do for him ..to see if he can help him break out ..and notch up

ian miller hitting 311 ave .. 8 stolin bases obp is 370 that is a bit low..but that would not keep him down
his slg is 361..that is bad and that will keep him down...and they would not want to put him on the 40 man till the end of the year anyway..which would signal the start of a mlb career..and time starts ticking on contrats

perkins is close to the same without the 40 man thing ..cuz he was already thrown out of phili

trade bait
nicasio........after almost 20 innings .he is not doing as well as we would like...he might play better in the national league
playing well at tacoma..bergman and just called up ..ryan cook ..casey lawrence..shawn armstrong

mark rzepczynski..played ok last year and at times did not..not doing well this year... .miranda ,dario alvarez, roenis elias
doing well at AAA tacoma

miller or perkins...i would rather keep miller

it would take a bit to get cordero from the padres..but i would ask for there cbA pick at #38 as well

and give
nicasio
goeddel
Rzepczynski
and
miller

i feel that would be fair..cuz it would solve there problems and the mariners as well.....somewhat
or without
rzepczynski...there choice
and add a player to be named later

Wonder what's gonna happen with Cano? He's on contract and he doesn't want to play 1st base or DH if Cruz goes. Kinda seems like a major cluster fuck coming up down the road. :noidea:

Well I guessed I might have learned something new today. So all baseball contracts are fully guaranteed? If he has back to back lousy seasons and gets released from the team he would still be entitled every little penny that he has on his contract?
