Whiteside again voices displeasure with playing time after his disappointing series ends

the Heat was outscored by 75 points with Whiteside on the court during the regular season (second worst on the team behind Dion Waiters) and by 26 points with Whiteside on the court during this playoff series, including minus 14 in Game 5.

Asked what most frustrated him from a team perspective, Whiteside cited his own issues with playing time.

"Not being out there,” he said. “Not being out there. At least give me a chance to fight. At least give me a chance to fight. I can understand if I was playing 30 minutes and I played bad. At least give me a chance."

He said: “We played a style of play Coach wanted. He wanted to utilize more spacing I guess in the playoffs, so that's why he did it."

Whiteside’s average minutes per game dropped from 32.6 last season to 25.3 this season, and he was fined in late March for an expletive filled rant about not being used more against some smaller lineups.

On Tuesday, he shot 0 for 4 from the field, closing with two points and five rebounds and left for good with 8:15 left in the third quarter.

might not be easy with no cap room and no draft pick to make significant changes unless you want to trade guys that you dont want to trade like Richardson.

We'll see. You do have a lot of dumb teams in this league.

I think the Heat would deal certain players like Richardson if it lands them a big fish.

I would think that every player on the Heat roster is available for trade but not sure that you could get in the sort of player worth trading Richardson or Winslow.

Yep that was stated in the article as well. There are some they would prefer to keep. That list is likely Dragic, J-Rich, Winslow, Kelly, and Bam but they'll deal them if they have to.

Don't know where he could be moved to without giving up other pieces.

i dunno about that---- attaching other contracts to a go making 25M isnt going to be easy--- cobbling together 25M to send back out to take a guy making 25M isnt always that easy.

Yeah I follow a lot of Miami people on twitter. I don't know who is at the top because Miami love those hurricanes but all I know is that the Heat are now above the Dolphins and it has been that way for nearly 10 years now from the outside looking in

Agreed. Once Marino retired and the Dolphins have been mediocre (they try, unlike the Marlins, just incompetent) along with the Heat's resurgence, especially getting Wade; it's been a part football/basketball town. The Hurricanes will always be at the forefront because South Florida is fanatic about football and the Canes provided the most consistent winning among themselves and the Dolphins. But you have to give it Riley, he pushed the basketball culture effectively.

Onlynk is more than qualified enough to play center.

I think with Bam and Olynk rotating at the 5, the Heat will be fine. As you've pointed out, I could see the Heat trading Whiteside and another player for an expiring contract and a potential 1st round pick (would have to be a team that's drafting in the later part of the round because Whiteside and another player aren't netting a top 15 pick).

I really want Lonnie Walker out of Miami. That kid kept getting better as the 2nd half of the season progressed and he improved drastically from the 3-point line. He's also someone that's projected to be drafted between 15-20. I hope Riley is able to pull something off. But my scenario seems a tad bit far-fetched, particularly for a 1st round pick.

Well that's the problem with moving him.

What team is going to take on that contract after this season? Sure the Lakers will take Whiteside. If the Heat take Deng. Same with the Knicks and Noah.

While he is probably still a better player to have than Thompson, he is effectively as toxic a trade piece as Thompson.

Yeah other pieces will have to be included which I'm ok with

Winslow would more than likely have to be included. Which, although I like him, if it gets rid of a center who's ineffective and bitches about playing time while making over $25 mil per year, I'm fine with it.

I could see the Lakers being a potential trade partner in this scenario. I'd rather have Deng who'd be a positive influence in the locker room - this is acknowledging that Deng is nowhere near the value he's being paid.

Sorry.
You are wrong.
First of all, he was being peppered with questions.
I heard it live. He was answering as diplomatically as he could.

Second, you said he’d melt down and wouldn’t be able to conduct himself as a professional on the court if things weren’t going his way. He was fine.

yeah, not seeing that happen because i don't think his playing style will fit with what the Lakers are trying to do. and Miami would be crazy to take on Deng's contract. the guy barely played at all out here...

sure seems like he is trying to run himself out of town- shortly after, how did the reporter put it? "he was fined in late March for an expletive filled rant about not being used more against some smaller lineups."

Heat center Hassan Whiteside finished an immensely disappointing first-round playoff series doing something he has done multiple times in recent months: voicing displeasure about his playing time.

The Heat was outscored by 75 points with Whiteside on the court during the regular season (second worst on the team behind Dion Waiters) and by 26 points with Whiteside on the court during this playoff series, including minus 14 in Game 5.

yah really sounds like a guy you want--- a 25M dollar player averaging 15 minutes, 6 points, 6 boards--- crying multiple times about playing time, expletive filled rants to the media resulting in him getting fined, ----a negative +- for the season. Its all stuff you just are so happy with your one max player. #timevindicates

get him out of there for just about anyone who isnt a net negative.

I doubt it would happen but I've seen stranger things.
