Spencer Long

This organization has been trending towards trying to keep its own draft picks in recent years. A big exception, of course, is the QB they drafted in 2012. Another exception appears to be Long, their third-round pick in 2014.

The word is that they will let Long, who started 13 games at left guard in 2015 and 18 games at center in 2016-2017, find a new home in free agency. There didn’t seem to be much dissatisfaction with his performance. Long wasn’t a candidate for the Pro Bowl or anything but his level of play was adequate. It should be noted, however, that the only year that Long went into a season as the starter was last year. In 2015 he replaced the injured Shawn Lauvao and he again started the next year on the bench before center Kory Lichtensteiger was injured. He was the starting center throughout the 2017 offseason program and into the regular season until knee and quad injuries sent him to injured reserve.

The main concern might be how much it will cost to keep Long in Washington. They already are paying premium salaries to tackles Trent Williams and Morgan Moses. Brandon Scherff will soon be one of the top-paid guards in the league. The hot interior linemen on the free agency market will make in excess of $10 million per year. Long won’t be as coveted as Andrew Norwell and Josh Kline but his market may be strong enough to warrant something approaching $8 million per year. That’s enough to leave the Redskins in something of a cap bind along the O-line (especially if they have to pay Nsekhe more than they'd like to) and perhaps that is why they may look to the draft or a cheaper free agent to fill the left guard spot.

I think the SKins will let him go and explore cheaper options whether its the draft or FA.

Skins may lose Cousins, Breeland, Long, Galette, Murphy, and Zach Brown.

I'm not sure if Galette or Brown count towards the compensatory equation since they werent drafted by the skins? How does that work? Regardless assuming the skins dont make any big moves they could break the compensatory pick record...

and at 5-11! It would be "sooooooo" worth it

Im not sure how it works bur KC and Bree will get huge contracts in FA. Hopefully that equates to two 3rd round picks next year.

In the same offseason.

They should keep Long, he can play both guard and center. But they can't afford him because the overpaid Moses. Another great move by this FO.

I thought it was interesting they said he could command 8 mil per season...imagine if he didn’t get injured.

i would keep long and still draft an o/lineman

You would keep Long at 8m per season? Why am I not surprised. Plus you want to draft another OG. IF we keep Long at 8m per season that would mean he would have to start and dominate for us at LG. I only keep Long at half that price if that. We can always pick up a veteran FA OG and still draft OG.

I believe Nelson for us at #13 would be a perfect fit. Hopefully he is there. He will solve the oline problem. Always can get a cheap backup if Nelson is selected.

If he is there at #13 he is the pick. I would even give Cravens and our 4th to trade up for him that is how important I think it is to land him.

did i say i would keep him for 8 mil? no deanis i did not , damn you are so fucking stupid . i said i would keep long . i have been on record for drafting hernadez wynn or nelson and keeping long and that certainly means 8 mil isnt on the table you fucking idiot . now quit sucking tandler nipple and think for yourself . long as a BU for a younger guy at center and OG would be good for us . he has knee issue which will drive down the price

Dean has grown up on a steady diet of the Dan Snyder way.

If it wasnt a first round pick, a trade up or a highly over rated guy come draft time..... well its just not exciting enough.

Just win off the field baby!!!
