I think they'll be adding to the defense and the running game to put Smith in a position to succeed.

That would imply that they for some reason put Cousins in a position to fail. Maybe they will give Smith better than a bunch of backup RBs and project WRs as well.

Imagine that.

Look man I'm some what agreeing with you. If you actually WANT your QB to succeed, you surround him with talent.

On the flip side, if you are daring him to succeed, you might hand him a WR with 30 snaps under his belt. Another WR coming in from another team that was considered a project, and a stable of RBs that you hope can be decent.

I think if Bruce has a football smart bone in his body, he will look at last year and realize he screwed the pooch in free agency and quietly hire some one with a clue instead of his usual...well this guy did pretty good over there so why don't we over pay him to come to DC.

The fact Smith doesn't turn the ball over as much as KC is a win.

KC might put up flashier numbers, but Smith takes care of the ball and is much more mobile.

Smith has the luxury of being able to hand the ball off and trust his defense. Wait...he had that luxury. Look at my other posts regarding his teams rushing ranks and defensive points allowed to understand the huge difference of what he had and what he now has.

Smith hasn’t turned it over as much. He also hasn’t thrown TDs nearly as much.

The redskins fan in me HOPES like hell Smith is everything the ABC crowd is propping him up to be because he is here and he aint Cousins which is all that really mattered to them.

The realist in me can see this has the potential to go down on the long list of Dan Snyder chasing guys who did well else were and proceeded to suck ass once that check cleared.

I would love for Alex Smith to win a SB carrying this team next year. We both know that is impossible. The only way we can be successful with Smith is if we are top ten in rushing and defensive points allowed.

People are looking at last season and thinking Alex Smith is a baller. They fail to see the truth. Hell, he lost Kelce in the playoffs and never scored another point.

Roll with McCoy, draft Rudolph in the 2nd round and build from there.

Fuck, wish you were the GM. That would have been hilarious. That was exactly what it wad looking like. I even oro ordered some extra laugh
Not a 34 year old who won't win us a super bowl.
You deserve to be the Browns too

Really?

Smith averages 15 TD's a season during his career.

KC 16.5 per season. Pretty damn close. And Smith never had a WR like DSeSean Jackson either. KC did.

You will forgive us if we doubt the sincerity of an Eagles fan who has the Redskins best interest at heart wont you??

Nice Spin.. But Cousins as a 16 game starter averages 27 passing TDs per season. 31 if you include rushing TDs.

Actually, Smith had Hill who is more dynamic than DeSean. Google Tyreek Hill Dallas.

I take it you disagree with my statement?? And some folks pay alot of money for this entertainment. You cant seriously justify paying what it costs for season tickets, the Sunday ticket or even the amount of time spent watching games or following this team. Not unless you are willing to some degree to have a vested interest in what the team does. Going to the local AMC to catch the latest movie is entertainment. Following a sports team is a bit more of a past time or hobby.

And yes, to be a Redskins fan over the past 26 years does involve a more than casual amount of group self delusion.

No, I don't disagree with your statement, just the methodology in which you used to get there. That said, yours is a really good example of cognitive dissonance in that it assumes (for example) that paying to go see a J-Z concert will determine which home you're likely to purchase. What might be constructive here, as an example, literally comes from @dad, who on numerous occasions posted in varying threads that, he doesn't want life's issues interfering with his time away from it when he's watching football. Maybe it's your belief, that the investment that you speak of, is a self inflicted emotional investment on par with every other thing that has some affect on our daily lives, but I guarantee this, entertainment in all of its' forms is a means to escape from those things that are meaningful to our lives.

BTW: When we see such attachments, typically, there are voids/issues unfilled/unresolved elsewhere in that life. .

I find it very ironic that the same folks who were bitching about Cousins are now applauding this trade as the right move. Really? So just what did we get that made this team better?

Although I'm certainly not one of them, my best guess, in response to your question, they would offer, Stability at QB.

WOW!!
I have a question for everyone that's related to the push from most here, to sign Kirk long term. Which of these two statements is incorrect.

1. With Cousins and the year to year tags, there was instability at QB.

2. Without him as is current with AS, there's stability at the quarterback position.

If you've answered both, then you know what this team got in trading for Alex Smith. How much is that worth to you? :suds:

Also... most people are roasting us for this trade both in league offices and the media. We look like idiots.

So basically, nothing new!!

Not much.

We couldve had stability by signing Mark Sanchez to a 5 year 100 million dollar contract fully guaranteed. It still would be stupid.

I'm not going to applaud stability if it means a commitment to a bad decision.

Really? You want to go by the numbers? Let’s do that. Let’s play your game just so you know how fucked up the above is. Oh, and Casserly is a fucking moron.

Over the last three seasons...

Kirk Cousins- 1132/1689, 67%, 13176 yards, 7.8 YPA, 81 TDs, 36 ints, 97.5 rating...QBRs 72, 66, and 51
Alex Smith- 976/1464, 66.7%, 11030 yards, 7.5 YPA, 61 TDs, 20 ints, 97.2 rating...QBRs 58, 58, 64

You said it. Numbers do not lie; however, you apparently do. KC has better numbers, far better numbers if you add in surrounding talent, and incredibly better numbers if you look at this season as a statistical anomaly for KC bas3d on all the injuries. Oh, did I mention Alex Smith couldn’t put up better numbers while being asked to do far less with much more?

Or were you referring to some other made up numbers in another dimension not lying?
Here we go, the other side of the coin. Look, Cousins may become Smith one day, they are very similar, wouldn't you agree gk?
I was actually referring to these career numbers (not a lie) that will improve over the next 3-4 years.
Career Comp % 62.4 Yards 31888 TD's 183 Int 96 Rtg 87.4
While they are similar QB's, KC albeit capable, has a ways to go to surpass Smith's numbers. Time will tell.

When all is said and done Smith will finish his career with well over 42k yards and solid numbers barring injury as a Redskin. Look, Cousins is gone, we all wish him well. Move on, get over it, its a business decision that was made due to the fact that Cousins side would not negotiate last year or this year until the FA period begins. Regardless of how YOU look at it, this time frame did not work for the Skins at this point. Draft a QB and start over or deal for one and continue to build around whomever assumes the position. They chose the later.

its people like you who dont understand the simple basics , why give up a player (a good young one ) and a draft pick when you simply didnt have to? there are FA qbs just as good as smith that we could have signed and before you ask me who the thread "lets have a legit plan to replace KC " spells them all out

the guy is 34 and he isnt getting better and if we had to draft a qb as well so be it . most likely we will draft one anyway so that theory is out the window as well

it was a stupid trade and if most "experts " thought it was needed to complete the trade then how about simpy not doing it because the price was to high

alex smith isnt better then KC either but KC was out the door anyway
I understand simple basics dad...the simple fact here is Cousins camp was NOT signing here, period. The FO (not me) decided a different solution to their problem was Smith. They felt, (so do I) that Smith was/is an option and decided to go that route. Because this decision was made, which by the way is a plan to replace Cousins who again, made it clear he was not signing with WASH.

In short:
Did we get the short end of the trade? Yes
Is the QB we traded for better than Cousins? Slightly
Did the FO have a choice? Not at this point

There is no theory here dad...the FO simply went out and found a QB who could replace one who didn't want to be here. Pretty simple and basic if you ask me. But, keep throwing around the insults mr. moderator!

You know, I agree with this in principle... except for the part where you try and paint this as the only option the Front office had and thus it was a good deal because of that.

They basically walked away from the lease on a 2012 QB because they had driven it long enough that buying it was too expensive

And instead they went out and BOUGTH a 2005 model.

Smith MIGHT be slightly better ( that wont be proven until we see what he does with this team)

IN the end I expected us to have another QB, I just hoped they would not dump more resources at trying to justify past mistakes.
