This is why the money argument to not sign KC has never held water. Its all funny money, anyway. Making KC the highest paid player in the league would still leave us plenty of space to do what ever we wanted to do in FA. No, those use money as the excuse to let KC walk are either ignorant to the issue or they are really just KC haters and ABCers.

Thank you! Thank you! I have basically thought this all along (actually perhaps a bit higher). This is why I always refute statements from folks like Dean who maintain that Cousins will count for $30M or so against the cap next season. Now tagging is another matter & why I always maintain that this is a terrible idea this offseason (unless they someone use it to transition into a LTD or decent trade before the season starts).

Great info.

aaaaaah you cant say they are ignorant because then they accuse you of getting your panties in an uproar when you trot out real facts that make their hate for KC exposed for what it is

this group has no issue with stafford being the highest paid qb now but god forbid our guy holds the title for a few months

We have known for quite some time the statement We cant keep Kirk because it would wreck our cap

was just code for

We cant really come up with a good reason to not resign Kirk other than his cost.

Well - whatever we think won't influence whether they keep Cousins or not. With that in mind I am preparing for the possibility of perhaps like w/o Cousins & the end result may not perhaps be the worst thing in the world. Given past history it is very possible but not a given. If it happens we have to just move on or find another team. I will always be a Redskins fan so I have no choice.

Good post - thanks. It sure sounds like the ball is in the Redskins FO court at this time. BTW - that reporter joking @ Cousins going to Jags is kind of eye opening. This type of BS is likely the basis for all of these stupid reports we read @ daily on Cousins going to Jags, Broncos, Browns, Jets, etc, etc, etc.

They are 99% bullshit & more of a wish or just click bait for reporters & the related media outlet where they are employed. They mean absolutely nothing.

I hear absolutely nothing in this interview to indicate that Cousins wants to leave DC or that he hates the Redskins FO. Quite the contrary - he indicates a desire to stay in DC & please the fans (just listen from 4:30 - 5:15 mark - a lot of this clip is crap). No doubt this will involve a large price tag, but I still have hope & don't trust any related media reports at this time.

Well Ian Rappaport posted today that the Jags are gonna sick it out with Bortles.....so I guess that means the Jags are definitely in play.

In all seriousness getting a LTD done with Kirk makes so much sense for us. We solve the QB position for the next 8 years. We don't have to burn our 13th pick on a QB and the Skins are a much more attractive free agency destination with Kirk on the team.

I think he knows that, which is why I can't undersand why if he really want to be here and win here, why he wouldn't want to.get something done ASAP, before FA.

I think Cousins would be perfectly happy staying in DC... on a market level deal. He MIGHT even take a slightly lower deal (slightly being the length of a Buddhist monks hair on a Tuesday).

The problem with Kirk staying has never been Kirk in my opinion. It is, and remains to be about Bruce and Dan and if they want him and can accept what he will cost and the fact that they were wrong.

KC wants a long term deal with a good three years guaranteed and a SB...he doesn’t want the team to be non-committal.
