Then I suppose you could imagine why I choose to stay where I'm at with an employer that's loyal to me and vice versa, rather than take that shot in the dark at God knows where...

Yeah, I can see why. I guess it's the same as never asking that girl out because she could probably say no. Or taking the training wheels off your bike because there's an increased chance you could fall. Or never bothering to get your drivers license because you could get into a car accident. Or even flying on a plane and traveling outside of the country because the plane could trash.

Well I have family in Arizona and fly out there just about every year, so it's not really all that comparable.

The analogy seems to have gone over your head.

Because I'm happy at my job that's only a mile from home where we're loyal to one another is somehow analogy that's over my head? Whatever logic suits you I guess...

The analogy is that you're a pussy. That post was in reference to you not wanting to pursue other opportunities because you might be let go.

Given that you don't grasp these comments and/or you're too stubborn to understand how business works; it might be in your best interest after all to stay where you're at. You seem like the type that's unable to pick up new concepts and learn new skills to bring your career along further.

Shocking.

Is that why I have the audacity to head back to school at my age (almost 30) for advancement opportunities or did you simply make assumptions and not bother to read my full OP?

I didn't realize school provided advancement opportunities in the fast food industry. Good for you.

RIGHT over his head...:L

this is being dense on purpose. I almost feel sorry for the guy...

Usually being dense on purpose is a good troll. You pretend you don't understand something so the other guy gets more and more agitated trying to get you to understand. But this cat may actually not understand what Heatles is trying to say.

Probably cause Heatles isn't making sense and is only slandering him.

You could at least tag me...

And yes, I am in fact loyal to my employer. Thanks for noticing. My place is high turnover and would like to get five years in there for resume purposes. Unlike some others, I like to show gratefullness for the opportunity that was given.
Loyalty is a good thing when applied correctly - but if you was given an opportunity to leave your job at $26K per year for a position in Arizona where you would be the head dietary planning for $40K per year and a chance to live in a more rural area free of smog, traffic and etc - that you would actually turn it down?

Going to be hilarious when people that have been in your career as long as you 5-10 years down the road are a few steps higher on the ladder than you.

Little story there, I have a friend of mine that worked with me at a couple of jobs. He's currently working in a location in Florida that I used to work at. Since he doesn't want to leave and the fact that Florida's not exactly great on IT jobs, it's been hard for him to move up. Meanwhile, I've moved onto jobs in Texas and Washington and now 3-4 years later, my salary more than doubles him and I'm on a ladder that has a much higher earning and growth potential.

As far as staying "loyal" to a company. I interviewed for a particular position that was a bit out of my wheel house. The company had so many applicants that came through that blatantly lied on their resume as well as the experience they carried. I had at least a base level of what they were looking for and they said they were willing to be patient with me. Two weeks into the position, a security company that was really well known contacted me with a job offer as they found another open requisition that they could hire me on. I told them thanks, but that I had a new job and wanted to stay loyal to them since they were taking a chance on me.

A month later, they realized that they needed someone who was senior level (having 15+ years experience with the technology) as opposed to someone who was Junior level, then proceeded to let me go.

So you can imagine why I find your loyalty talk hilarious.
I have taken a few risks - I remember my first year in insurance auditing which was slow for the company I was working for. I interviewed for the job and had to submit to a drug test. I still remember that lovely lady in a mini skirt which was more then half way between the knees and the best part of her. So she sits down at her desk facing me, puts her feet on the desk and shows me everything she has. I held my composure, showed her copies of my audits I had done for other companies and got the job and a huge stack of assignments the same day. Started as a part time and ended with a full time benefits and health insurance. My next major position was a risk and I went from 24K to 40K in the first year and for the first time in my life was able to buy a brand new car. That was two decades ago, so my point - screw loyalty - It takes money to pay bills and a dietician at a hospital can't possibly be good enough pay to buy your own home and enjoy life.

Just a few things:

You said that your job has a high turnover ratio. In the insurance industry, carriers don't like to insure those type of businesses because the labor force is usually unskilled and not highly paid. A dietician couldn't possibly be more than 24K and your walking to work means you really can't afford a new car to go places. That's a dead end job and the reason the job is a high turnover.

Your idea of going back to school is a great one, so, I want to suggest becoming a physical therapist. A good therapist will make a minimum of 1.5 times what you're making and it's a trade that you can find a job anywhere in the country easily

I know you think going back to school is difficult, but I have a 60 year old sister who went back 5 years ago, and got her masters. I have 4 nephews and 3 nieces and 6 of them finished school with a Bachelors and one of them got a masters and the oldest a phd, who now works for the FDA and he started out at 100K a year. I don't want to knock it if you have a good job, but there is no guarantee for the future. An education and diversity is something that you can use the rest of your life.
