I have always wanted one but refused to own one until I matured enough and my son was an adult. Think I will go looking this weekend there are place here in Fl, that take the cost of the motorcycle safety course off your purchase if you take the course and buy your bike through them.

Good for you. Start with a used bike at 750 cc or smaller before getting a new bike. That way if riding isn't for you you don't have a ton of money invested. Riding isn't for everyone.

Enjoy! I've been riding most of my life and love it.
The worst thing ever invented for riders is the cell phone. It was much safer before folks started talking and texting on them.
You may want to get a high visibility vest or jacket for riding alone, people just don't see you. I only wear my leathers riding in a group.
Above all be aware and ride like you are invisible so you are ready when an idiot pulls out of a driveway.

Yeah I am looking into that as well, the jackets are ugly but ugly is okay, I figure I can place reflective strips on the helmet, and I am told there is a way to upgrade to a brighter headlight I will have to check with dealer.

Have fun and keep your head on a swivel.
I was one of the few people that was more concerned about myself than I was the other guy. I drove my cars WAY to fast.
Sure enough, first time on a motorcycle, a Honda Interceptor, I was trying to take it easy. Go slow.
Cruising the byways of Vermont at a nice, leisurely relaxed pace when I looked down at the speedo...somewhere between 95 - 100.
That was holding back.
I knew once I got used to it, 130 - 140 would be the norm. Until I wanted to ride angry.

Gave the bike away in a trade.

Exactly why I waited this long, I now set the cruise control 2 to 5 MPH over the posted limit and typically ride the slow or middle lane. I now keep a very safe distance, I regularly check the mirrors and blind spots, I don't merge until I see the front tires of the vehicle behind me in my rear view mirror. When I start the car I let the idle drop back down. I just noticed I was now a lot safer then I ever was and always wanted a bike. So Sat morning I am off the dealer to take an initial look, look into the riders course, price gear and options etc...

None of the big Harleys feel right to me. Some dood I know bought one of those Victory bikes and I rode it a couple miles...and it felt great. They're giving them away because of the HD brand loyalty.

Looked like this...guess it was a Victory Vegas.

So I l like the Yamaha Cruiser its a 950 which I feel is a nice medium for a beginner. It's large enough where I think I would not need an upgrade anytime soon, and powerful enough but not to powerful for a beginner. I was able to sit on it while they held it in place, felt comfortable. Prices seem about the same at most dealers it's more about any deals on gear and upgrades they may offer. Anyway gonna keel looking but this feels right for me.

I love seeing old fart mom and pop cycle duos on their Harleys. Hub waited all his life to retire and buy the thing for his golden years.

All leathered up. Looking bad in their chaps....

Makes me giggle.

Harley is not out of the question but I did a lot of research and from what I read Yamaha is the most reliable bike out there.

Just don't see the attraction to a noisy lump like a Harley.

I have a friend who teaches English in Japan.

He owns a 2015 V-Max.

He had an earlier one too.

Exactly I think a lot of people get caught up in the mystique of HD, I am not one of those guys what I read said this was an excellently balanced bike which I assume means there are bikes out there that may not be. This is a tweener I feel I could do four hours on this bike which is about as long as I would anyway.

Check out an R1200RT. It's a great sport-touring machine and very easy to work on if you are so inclined. It's good for long trips and short trips, on the highway or in the twisties, and has superior weather protection. It is sometimes used as a law enforcement vehicle.

I have been riding bikes off and on for nearly 43 years. My latest dream bike is this: 2017 Yamaha V-Max. Badness to the bone!
