I just think Brees is close enough and him being an ancient NFL player voters will sway votes his way. If Mahomes wins it I won't have any complaints.

You're right about Brees being the sentimental favorite but I just don't see voters overlooking the season that Mahomes had. I mean this season wasn't even Brees best season. Not even close. He's had 12 seasons with more yards (way more) and 8 seasons with way more TD's. And he didn't win MVP for any of those years. The one main reason he could possibly get some votes over Mahomes is because he broke the all time yards record. But that is a career stat and not a single season stat so in my opinion that shouldn't win him the MVP over Mahomes. On a side note: I'd be fine with Brees winning it. I've always really liked the guy and it would be great to see him get one before he retires. Unfortunately his main competition this year just happened to have a crazy good year.

Feel the exact same way. I'm a purist, so to me the award belongs to Mahomes But it's amazing that Brees has had such a fantastic career and yet never won the award. Maybe they'll split the MVP/OPOY by giving Brees the MVP and Mahomes the OPOY. That would satisfy a whole boatload of people.
