Am I crazy or is this a pretty expensive defense corps?

Timmonen - $6,000,000
Streit - $5,250,000
Coburn - $4,500,000
Meszaros - $4,000,000
Schenn - $3,600,000
Grossman - $3,500,000

/Yes and yes is acceptable

You forgot one:

Pronger - $4,941,429
:laugh3:

(at least during the offseason)

At least they don't have 30% of their salary tied up on two forwards who miss, on average, 40% of the games.

I don't know why everyone is up in arms, it's not even a full NMC!

On the homer contract scale, this gets a solid B

NHL wide grading scale, a solid D-

So in addition to being a shrewd judge of young talent, he is also a master negotiator?

You seem to be pretty hung up on those 2's contracts.

I'm sure when Shero was negotiating with Malkin's agent he said "what if Geno gets concussed again and can't play for awhile or what if he hurts his shoulder again and is out for awhile.....we can't pay that much to take such dicey chances"

Maybe they should ask Sid to restucture his deal in case he takes a puck to the face again and is out for awhile??

Woof. I mean, their D got better, but man. Obviously this is just a precursor to buying out Bryz/Briere. With the cap calculator, buying out those two would open up $4.36M of space. Signed players would then be: F: Hartnell-Couturier-Voracek-McGinn-Giroux-Simmonds-Rinaldo-Schenn-Akeson-Rosehill-Talbot-Read-Laughton; D: Timmonen-Streit-Pronger-Coburn-Meszaros-Schenn-Grossman-Gervais-Bourdon; G-Mason

Not sure if they bring back a stronger back up? Listed two AHL guys as signed on capgeek, each for a $925K hit, which brings down to $3.4M.

All that said, I'd see a trade or something on the horizon...something to move salary. Also have to keep in mind that Giroux, Schenn, and Couturier are all RFA after this year, with Meszaros and Timonen as UFA. Gonna be a much different team.

If I'm talking Swiss defensemen, I think I would rather have Roman Josi for 7 years at 4 million per season than Mark Streit for 4 years at 5.25 million.

Come on Devils, Gonchar and Streit just got obnoxious contracts, teams are paying out the ass for D, move at least 1 of the 15 we have available.

I for one am fine with this contract until the fourth year.

And with Briere's inevitable buyout, let's hope he signs with a rival.

Coburn will bring a decent return and I agree he will be the one dealt. Mez is not going anywhere w the exception of being on LTIR once again. Just wish he could stay healthy.

I wanted Streit on the Sens.

That contract might even make Sens for the cap floor floating Sens. It's pretty risky for the Flyers.

I could see some big salaries going out of Philly this offseason. Ottawa might be a logical destination. I'd take a Cobourn or Simmonds at a reduced rate.

Coburn can be had, but don't even bother asking for Simmonds.

would you believe... Danny Briere or Bruno Gervais?
no wait, Gervais makes less than a million.... flyers are going to need a bunch of those guys.

I actually think that Briere could be a Sen in the very near future.

$5M cap hit and ~$2M actual salary. Melnyk would like that for a year or two until this team is ready to compete. I think Briere has lost a step but holy shit is that guy clutch in the playoffs.

Wouldn't buying those two out net just over $12 million? Briere's at 6.5 and Bryz is 5.667, and I thought amnesty buyouts were a 100% cap savings.

On an unrelated note, can we buyout Mark Streit?

Well, the Flyers are currently like $7+M over the limit. So buying out those two brought them to just under $5. It adds up.
