Flyers land upcoming UFA defenceman Mark Streit - The Globe and Mail
Yeah, they're gonna be buying some players out.
Yeah, they're gonna be buying some players out.
I hope Streit gets as many years & as much money as possible. Good luck in Philly buddy.
Thanks for the 4th round pick in 2014 Holmgren.
He's gonna get years, that's for sure. Although he's already 35...still, I see him getting a five year deal. Knowing Homer, he'll get 7.
I expect Streit to get a 4 year deal. He already turned down 3 years 15M from the Isles. Holmgren wouldn't have acquired him if he didn't think he could get a deal done. This makes me think Holmgren will make another attempt to acquire Bernier. Bernier made 1.25M this year. Philly will probably look to save some money in goal this time around.
Holmgren needs to be careful with the cap situation though. Buyouts are nice, but having a lot of empty money would be rough for a few years, ESPECIALLY with Giroux's deal coming up next summer. He's up for a hefty raise. Buyout candidates: Bryzgalov, Briere, Pronger.
Cost of buying out Bryz:
2013-14: -$690,476
2014-15: $1,309,524
2015-16: $1,309,524
2016-17: $1,809,524
2017-18: $1,809,524
2018-19: $5,059,524
2019-20: $6,059,524
2020-21: $1,642,857
2021-22: $1,642,857
2022-23: $1,642,857
2023-24: $1,642,857
2024-25: $1,642,857
2025-26: $1,642,857
2026-27: $1,642,857
Pronger:
2013-14: -$1,046,071
2014-15: $1,953,929
2015-16: $5,378,929
2016-17: $5,378,929
2017-18: $1,012,500
2018-19: $1,012,500
2019-20: $1,012,500
2020-21: $1,012,500
Briere:
2013-14: $4,333,333
2014-15: $5,333,333
2015-16: $833,333
2016-17: $833,333
Those aren't pretty numbers. Having those cap hits in addition to Giroux's salary going up at least $4M? Next year they can manage, but they have to look into moving these guys. But...that's basically impossible.
Amnesty buyouts
Is it amnesty buyouts or buyout? I thought you were allowed one get out of jail free card, or am I mistaken? I'm probably wrong.
Given two over the course of the next two years. After that it's gone. Supposed to help with cap relief since it's going down. That's why everyone keeps throwing Bryz/Briere for them. I like the concept of the amensty since the caps going down, but dang that's quite the get out of jail free card.

most likely another contract to hang on homer's wall of shame.
i'd rather take another stupid contract than trade couturier/schenn or a million 1st round picks for a 'stud' dman though. patience is a virtue the flyers organization does not usually understand.

The Defenseman who will likely take Streit's spot on the Isles is Matt Donovan. Donovan was a 4th round pick in 2008. Last year in Bridgeport (AHL) his numbers were 14G 34A 48PTS +14 in 75 Games. Donovan will be entering the final year of his ELC at 875K.:
Still cool with it if it means the flyers aren't trading schenn or couturier. Sad that you have to be happy when something only a little bad happens haha
