I actually think that Briere could be a Sen in the very near future.

$5M cap hit and ~$2M actual salary. Melnyk would like that for a year or two until this team is ready to compete. I think Briere has lost a step but holy shit is that guy clutch in the playoffs.

With a contract like that, there might be some competition from Wang to bring him to NYI.

briere has a full NMC and is apparently pretty sensitive about where he lives (sole custody of his sons).. so i think he'll put the kabosh on any trade so that he can pick the right fit for him in free agency, even if the right fit is the Sens or NYI who would have traded for him

Thank you Homer...thank you

They are chiseling those words on the outside of Nationwide right now.

He would want the trade because his salary would stay consistent. But no GM would be dumb enough to agree because if they know he waived the NTC to come there, they can get him far cheaper as an UFA.

I see him in Montreal or Ottawa.

Well, the Flyers are currently like $7+M over the limit. So buying out those two brought them to just under $5. It adds up.

Ooooooh, I gotcha. I was thinking you meant the buyout would only give them 4.whatever million better than what they had now, not move them from negative 7 mill to positive 5 in cap space.

No problem. The question that remains though: will they buyout both this offseason for an "easy fix", or buyout just one (Briere) and try to fanangle around enough to get under the cap in other ways, keeping one.

No GM? I think Sather read that and took it as a personal challenge.

Interesting...I was really getting that feeling from the Flyers based on quotes and everything. It's a lot of money to be paying a guy not to play for your team. I mean, they can test him out for another year, but next year it's a big decision, compliance buyouts are done after that. It's interesting that they're still big in the Bernier talks though. If they get Bernier, they basically have to buyout Bryz.

Rich Winter, Ilya Bryzgalov's agent has been informed by Paul Holmgren that Bryzgalov will NOT be bought out after Cup Final! #flyers
