When it comes to throwing ridiculous amounts of cash at people always lead with the Yankees, then follow with Sawx, Cubs and LA teams.

It pains me that the Mets are no longer in this conversation. Stuipd Wilpons getting robbed by Madoff.

He is considered an MLB FA and not an amateur FA, correct? They made an exception for him?

Most teams have the money (basically). Some teams chose to put into the team, some chose to put into pockets.

:suds: to the Padres for finally getting an ownership group that wants to be relevant. Nothing but respect for what they are doing. Even if I am not convinced they are a perfect team, I like what they are doing.

I disagree with the statement that all teams have money. Yes literally they all do have money, but there are a few that have a whole lot more.... Theres a reason its always NY, Boston, LA, LA and Chicago throwing around the big bucks.

Will there ever come a time when there are no Americans in MLB? Just a thought. I am all for equal rights for Americans in the United States, but am worried that MLB will become a foreign player's only league grabbing OUR money and American players will have to settle for the Minors. Maybe it's time to limit the number of foreign-born players on each 40-man roster. Doesn't Japan do that?

I don't see the point. Most of the top jobs in America are held by foreigners anyway, whoever is the best should play, don't make this a political issue.

63m when counting the mlb tax. That's more money than the highest six teams draft pools were in the 2014 draft. Looks like the international draft is going to end up happening.

A lot of money for a 19-year-old kid. But I'm excited. Hard to get an idea of just how strong the competition in the Cuban National Series was, but Moncada was ~10 years younger than the league average.

Insane $$.

He still gets to go through arbitration when he gets to that point, so if he is as advertised, he will still be grossly over-paid.

EXTREMELY high risk / high-ish reward, but absolutely zero equity gain by the Sox on this one. Not sure why the international pool is a soft cap. If they just implement a hard cap to amateur players, that would go a long way to keeping things somewhat sane and keeping more teams in it.
