YIKES....Chargers Extend K. Allen 4/$44M

The Chargers have given Keenan Allen a four year $44M contract extension. Guarantees are unknown at the moment. If Allen is worth $11M a year, what's AJ Green, Dez Bryant, Brandon Marshall, etc. etc. etc. going to HAVE to be paid.

What does this do to pay structures across the board? If Allen is worth $11M per year, what is Rob Gronkowski worth? What is Julio Jones worth? What is Damarius Thomas worth?

Allen may be the highest paid WR in the NFL depending on the guarantees and that's ridiculous.

YIKES. He just does not have the sample size to justify that. He was incredible last year (when healthy), but sure seems like a stretch.

sure he does 4 years, was great as a rook, hurt the next year, and insane until injury again, and hes young, with the cap expected to go up big, this is a steal

Maclin got 11m AAV just last year. Hurns just got 10m with potential to make 11M AAV in his contract. Elite WR's would be asking for 14 or 15m.

I can respect that position. It all comes down to health. If he plays 4 full years with little or no time off and performs like he did when he was on the field last year...you're right, this would be a steal.

I haven't checked his incentives, but I wouldn't be shocked if they are classified as LTBE. Could easily be 11M AAV for Hurns as well.

Never said or meant to imply I thought you thought otherwise. Both views can be correct in their own way. One compares to peers, another compares to how much they'd want to invest at WR.

Personally I think the whole lot is over paid, but the money is there and it HAS to be spent 10M for a 2nd contract starting WR will soon be a bargain.

I don't use Hurns as a barometer. I think that was a bit much. Allen Robinson is arguably better and will want that or more when it's his time soon. They may end up with too much $$$ tied up in the WR position. Ok with Maclin.

But yeah, time will tell on Allen, but your point is well taken. I definitely saw a major drop in production in my fantasy team when Allen went down!

I'll wait for the guaranteed to give an official grade, but overall the money that's shaping out to be an A signing.

Locking up a #1 WR (which Allen definitely is) for roughly $11M a year is great. Allen needs to stay healthy, but he's still very young and gives Rivers a chance to continue to work on offense.

I don't use Hurns as a barometer. I think that was a bit much. Allen Robinson is arguably better and will want that or more when it's his time soon. They may end up with too much $$$ tied up in the WR position. Ok with Maclin.

allen rob is better than hurns, but thats their fault for doing hurns first.......robinson is a legit stud

Another obvious comparison for the contract would be Randall Cobb's 10M for last year. With the cap going up, basically the same contract Allen got here.

Terrance Williams is already asking for a 10M contract, I say no I won't give it to him, but the markets not agreeing with me.
