Looking at him now, he actually isn't pitching badly. He's overpaid sure but he is a solid #3/#4 rotation guy.

If the plan is to go for it next year, which I think it is, I'm not so sure you get rid of him. If he stays he's their only bad contract left next year. Your rotation is Sale, Quintana, Danks, Rodon, and perhaps a #3 type they get as a free agent. They will spend more when they 'go for it', using Dunn's freed up money and raising the payroll from the bottom to the top half...

They probably need a catcher (doesn't have to be an allstar but has to be a solid vet better than Flowers), and of course need 2-3 relievers (not hard to get). But with Avisail Garcia coming back next year they are pretty set with just those additions.

Obviously if the Yankees blow them away with their offer you take it, but I don't think you need to dump Danks just to get rid of the contract. A team can afford to have 1 bad one.

Kind of off topic: can any of you recall a Sox player doing really well after he leaves the Sox (either traded away or leaving as a FA)?

I can't think of any except maybe Buehrle. None of these guys have: AJ, Floyd, McCarthy, Santos, Reed, Santiago

I guess if you go back far enough Frank Thomas had a couple good years in Oakland.

Point being the Sox aren't perfect but they don't seem to let guys go before they should...
