Would you pay Doan 5+ million per season?

Seems to be the consensus over at Kukla's Korner - Since going O-fer-2 on Suter and Parise, I may have to talk some Wings fans off the ledge over there...

If it was a 2- or 3-year contract and given what is currently available, yeah, I think somewhere around $4.3-$5.3 mil per seems about right. I think $5.5 or more is too much though.

The Red Wings need something right now. Anything. They don't want to ice a team that has no chance of winning the Stanley Cup with marquee names heading out but none coming in. This town is way too fickle for attendance to not suffer.

The Jackets have space and need someone to make room in the corners and in front of the net and draw attention away from opposing agitators.

Without question, I would.

I like KK, but man, ever since the Wings were spurned by Parise and Suter, they been bitter and rather swampy dare I say. They seem to be showing off their spoiled and entitled side a bit too much.

If my team was an expected cup contender, I would drop $5m on Doan at the deadline. This early? I don't think so.

I would, yes... 1 year or 2 years max, though.

One or two years, $4-5 million AAV is fair value for a guy who brings as much as Doan does. That 5, though, is the absolute upper limit. His value falls more closely around the 4.2 area.

Wings need to make some trades to clear up roster space, but I wouldn't mind having him on a one year deal.

I'd go as high as $5 per on a one or two year deal.

He's, IMO, in decline and will soon be a third liner. I see his decline as paralleling that of Trevor Linden's. It's just coming a little later.

Offer him 4.5 for a one year deal, incentives for the playoffs, see if he goes for-it.

Have they tried checking out the social security ranks yet?

If guys like Wideman & Carle can get over 5 million per than a player like Shane Doan should with ease. It's not just about number with Doan. He's a leader. He's a guy who everyone on your team will respect & can turn too when things aren't going well. The young players on your team will learn valuable lessons every day of the season by just being around him. Having Shane Doan on your team would be HUGE in so many ways. I'm not saying Doan is going to get 5 million plus, but it won't surprise me one bit if he does.
