I think Montgomery going to the Diamondbacks is the best option if he was not coming back here. I doubt they make it back to the WS in the next couple of years.

Monty = 25 mill in payroll for 2024

CY essentially went for quantity and more pitching depth instead of the one quality big fish in Monty, given the payroll constraints. The value of Lorenzen's absolute bargain of a contract really helps me lean towards that direction as well, especially knowing that Degrom and Scherzer's returns will help bolster the top of the rotation by playoff time

Yeah, there are only so many big fish you can go after. They had to have bullpen help.

I would think the Rangers have known for a couple of days or longer, how the roster should take shape, given who they have right now. I am not sure why they had to wait until today to make those decisions. It does seem like the Young/Bochy tandem does like to put off announcing things as long as possible. Not sure which of the two is responsible for that, or if they both are. Other than dramatic effect, I would think the reason would have to be they are waiting for other teams to either make cuts or trade offers. I guess we will know soon enough.
