One of my favorite

Yup.
Glad he finished with a ring.
With all the DMC & Revis talk, this kinda suprised me.
I wonder if there was any talk at all about a renegotiation, or simply done, thanks for coming by these past 11 years.

Thought this was the move they would be forced to make. Great player, great character, and just an all around great guy. Always tough to see those type of players leave an organization. Broncos had it with Champ Bailey last year where his contract had just exceeded what he could bring on the field and it just came time to move on.

Unfortunately for Wilfork his contract became the easiest to cut with very little hurt to the actual team. He has a very little dead money hit so it makes sense business wise to do this. Kind of hoping the Broncos kick the tires a bit and see what happens.

Ian Rappaport says the door is not closed yet.
Hope the big guy comes back for another title run.

Vince was a great Patriot and glad he finished with a ring - but it was time.

Wilfork was informed on Tuesday. He waited until this morning to send out the information on Twitter.
It all honesty, this was a no-brainer for the Patriots. It's a move that gives them $8.1 against the cap.
Mayo's next.

I'm glad he got 2 rings playing for us. He's a great leader and can still play the game
if he still is good why was he cut? Will they attempt to sign him at a lesser cost?

This looks like a rebuilding job.

It comes down to money. Wilfork was the one guy that was a top-5 paid guy on the team that cutting him didn't leave a ton of dead money. Throw in his age of being 33 with a major injury just a year ago and it becomes more clear that this was a move they had to make. Yes he still offers a lot on the field but the Patriots have always been known as a team that gets rid of a guy a year early rather than a year late.

This also allows Vince plenty of time to renegotiate or enter FA.

Like I said, Mayo is next. He's a $10.2M hit against the cap. No matter, the Pats still take a $4.5M hit if they release him. It's better to take the hit at $4.5 than $10.2 for guy that will be a back up.

I expect that Belichick will offer Vince and Jerod reduced contracts without playing bonuses. If they don't sign with the Pats, I'm sure BB has an alternative already set in his mind. Worst case the cap hit is $4.5M rather than $18.3M. Hey Ngata is available.......think he'd sign with the Pats for $5M??

Even though you knew this was coming, it was actually shocking and sad to see it from Vince. A true leader on the field and in the club house. 75 loves NE and plans on staying here. I don't think 75 will move his family for a few yrs for a few xtra bucks. I actually see him back after he kicks the tires on what is out there. What DD got in SF shows you where Vince should be looked at in terms on contract. 2yrs for 4mill with incentives. I actually think he will retire a Patriot.

Classy guy. Great tweet he sent out. So many guys around the league could stand to learn a few things from Vince, but I doubt they will.
