Why is Ichiro considered automatic for HOF?

While I agree with most of your argument in this thread. you went a little far on the bolded.

In my lifetime:

Carew, Boggs, and Gwynn

Between the deadball era and my birth

Waner, Heilmann, and if I wanted to look I could probably come up with a few more.

And while I agree that I probably went too far with my statement, keep in mind, I'm 27. I vaguely remember the end of Gwynn's and Boggs's careers.

So, best singles hitter of my memory I guess would be more appropriate.

Just a side note.

I noticed while looking at Ichiro's stats that he lead the AL in intentional walks 3 times.

How does that happen?

That's pretty crazy. I never thought he had many. 181 IBB's for a slap hitter. Then again, Wade Boggs had 180 himself and led the AL six times in a row (!).

There are nine spots in a batting order, most of them y

Man on second two outs. I would walk Ichiro depending on who was batting after him.

I don't know. Probably a better chance the next guy goes yard or splits a gap. Depends on the score I guess.

(I've done this before too. I'm trying to conjure a response to a post and I just say "fuck it", but forget to delete the rest before posting.)

If one half of the equation isn't as high as a slugger's, the state is gonna be lower than a slugger's.

Power bats are more valuable, I don't think there's any debate about that, but there's still a lot of value to a guy that gets a shit ton of hits and is a threat to leg out a single on a routine grounder to short.

This seems a lot like moving the goalposts. I was never arguing against the point you made in your second paragraph.

Carew, Gwynn and Boggs are all in the National Baseball Hall of Fame, there is room for Ichrio!!! There is room for the best hitter in most of our lifetimes Barry Bonds!!!

Mariners had some pretty crappy lineups from 2004 on (after guys like Edgar, Boone, Olerud became washed up), so I would've taken my chances with their #2 hitter.

You do realize Trammel was WS MVP???

Ichiro was a very good hitter, but how do you ignore a 355 career OBP??? Is that really a great, HOF hitter? And why not compare him to others? Hell, lets compare him to other 3000 hitters...he's worse at OBP, OPS and OPS+ (Beltre, Jeter, Rose, Arod, etc....)

There is the opposite argument...why isn't Simmons in the HOF or Edmonds?

I love the guy but he isn't HOF to me...he didn't transform the game. He never played in a WS.

nobody said he will be an elite HOFer... But he is a HOFer... and it is not ONLY because of his stats... Clemente, and Jackie Robinson made the HOF not just for their play but for opening the gates... Sure, Ichiro's gate wasn't as hard as the other 2, and sure There were Asian players before ichiro... But it really was ichiro who brought focus to Asian(not just Japanese) baseball to the American eyes... and made Asian players actually want to come over...

but I do question whether a non asian player with his career path would be a HOF... as pointed out his offensive numbers are pretty damn over-rated...

A non power hitter who had a non impressive OBP, would likely not even stick around the league when his BA dipped... But ichiro from 2011-2018 has played 1963 games with 3389 PA... and in those years he was a below average defender too...

and had 845 of his 3089 hits

would he have been a Hall of Famer if he had ended his career after 10 straight years of 200 hits?

This might have already been asked, but im not reading 4 pages back.
